The 63711 cuts 3/0 and 600 MCM Cu wire like a knife through warm butter with minimal effort
NOTHING beats having the right tool for the job (Well, almost anyway--you can always have somebody else do it for you...). The 63711 cuts 3/0 and 600 MCM Cu wire like a knife through warm butter with minimal effort. This is important in tight spaces, or if you have a lot of wire to cut, or if you do not have a vice like grip, etc. I believe these could be used by motivated people in the 120 lbs range. To accomplish the obviously large mechanical advantage, the ratchet step size is small so these do not cut as fast as the big battery powered units. However, you can easily hand squeeze the blades down to the the surface of the wire so the only slow part is the actual cut. Depending on your size and speed, this is only a few seconds. Took me about 8-10 sec to cut Cu 3/0 wire. The only mark on the blades after several cuts, under a magnifying glass, is a very thin and small smear of copper on the blade surface from the material being cut.Note: For those who might confuse me with someone who does this professionally, I don't. I like engineering/science things (Really am an MIT graduate.) and so I had occasion to watch some professionals using this tool and the battery powered cutters while building a large data center class facility. Having wired up large industrial equipment and VERY high voltage high power gear as a graduate student...I have a lot of respect for the guys who do this for a living--the good ones move fast and get it right the first time. Cutting heavy wire with the wrong/too small of tools is both overly time consuming and can lead to poor wire terminations--which can in some cases be dangerous. So, for reworking a massively insufficient home grounding line, and two breaker panels that had insufficient service entrance wiring (SER), I bought this tool to do the work myself. So, I cannot direly speak to long term durability, except to say that it is very solid, and clearly can cut 600 MCM without stressing the tool. Great!

Will absolutely get the job done. Used mainly for cutting 200 amp wire.
High quality cutters that work. I believe they are over-priced. They do get the job done. The latch that holds the cutters closed when not in use could be improved. The slightest bump and they spring open.

You know what you’re getting with Klein
Klein isn’t what they used to be, since they outsourced production. But they’re still better then most. You know your getting something that will last for years but not the same quality or sky high price that you’d pay for those Knipex from Germany. If you use it everyday spring for the knipex... more likely this is a tool you use 2-3 weeks out of six months, so just buy these ones or the Greenlee’s.

Works very well just as advertised.
This is a great tool. Works very well just as advertised. I have been using it for a wiring job I have and am impressed with its performance pm both individual and bundles of wires. I highly recommend it. The one star reduction is because it is terribly overpriced - up to 4X competing versions of the same thing. But all that being said I am glad I bought it!

Does the job
I purchased this tool used from an Amazon seller. It was listed as being in "good" condition. When it arrived I noticed a small nick on the cutting blades. Perhaps someone tried to cut something other than the copper and aluminum wire for which it is designed. I carefully removed the burs from the nick and sharpened the cutting edges with diamond needle files. The blades looked much cleaner, and the mechanism operated much more smoothly when I finished. I tightened the pivot screw and nut as recommended by the manufacturer. I then tested the cutter on #2 and 2/0 THHN/THWN-2 wire. It cut easily through both sizes, but the cuts ends are not very square. It crowns the middle, leaving an abrupt sharp edge across the cut face. The mechanism is ergonomic and feels comfortable so I think this tool will work well and do an acceptable job.
