The manufacturers developed a type of handle that acts like a slip knot system that is supposed to make it easier to adjust the length. yeah it's a soft rubber plastic hybrid. so it doesn't hurt, i hit myself a few times and shrugged it off like nothing happened. except when i hit myself in the balls. that's the only thing i can think of that will hurt.
