Once set-up, product works beautifully to connect TV wirelessly to receiver (2 units)
I purchased these to connect my television to my receiver/sound system wirelessly. The system performs beautifully now, but it was a bit of a challenge to get working properly, perhaps due to a defective optical cable (not the one supplied, but one I had). Now that it is set up, it performs flawlessly. The delay is NOT bad at all, and easily corrected in-set on the television. A few things to note: 1) At first, setting one unit as transmitter on my television, and the other as a receiver (on my stereo receiver), I had some trouble getting them to pair, but I put the units close to each other and this problem was solved. 2) I still had no audio signal at my stereo receiver. To try to trace the problem back, I first plugged the transmitter into the RCA jacks on my TV and plugged headphones into the receiver (this worked). Next, I plugged the receiver into my amplifier using the RCA plugs (this worked), then tried with the transmitter hooked to the tv optical out (this worked), and finally got it working via the optical cable to my receiver. NOTE: During this process, at one point I had the transmitter broadcasting DIRECTLY to my receiver's bluetooth input --- this was HORRIBLE, with a completely unacceptable delay, but this was the fault of the STEREO RECEIVER, NOT the fault of the Avantree adapter. Using an Avantree Adapter, there is virtually no delay, and it works perfectly. Moral to the story - if you experience a delay, it is likely to your bluetooth receiving unit delay, and not due to the Avantree products. You can, if you want, purchase a second Avantree unit as a headphone/stereo bluetooth receiving unit, and this will solve your delay problem. A+ for the product. This is exactly what I was looking for!

This has more uses than you realize
What a great little product. Battery powered. Receive and transmit. There's so much you could actually do with this device it is mind-bending. For the small price you cannot go wrong. It comes with all the cables that you could need including The optical cable. There's definitely no regret on this purchase I get that some people may not need the battery powered option but once you have it all it just changes everything that you have in your ability. I could go on about all the options that you could have using this device, I mean geez literally you could take an old boombox hook this up to it and have no power requirements because your boombox would be powered on batteries and this is powered on batteries and you'll be able to Bluetooth to it easily. Sure this may not be exactly what you're trying to do but what I'm saying is it opens the door for a lot of possibilities and it works well.

Works great, but powers-off if not connected to BT.
The sound quality is great with no noticeable delay at all when using aptX headphones. I'd say it is just as good as wired, and works great for watching TV without disturbing others, which is why I bought it. It is important that the headphones also support aptX or you will notice a significant sync delay, and of course the better the headphones the better the audio quality. I'm using this with a fiber "TOS-Link" connection (fiber provided) and it works very well. The only issue I have, which dropped a star, is the adapter shuts off if there is no BT receiver (headphones) connected, so you have to turn it on each time you want to use it. This would probably be a minor annoyance to most, but I found it to be problematic for my installation. It is a great product otherwise!

Easy to Install and Audio Sync Is Brilliant
First, I have a somewhat complicated setup, which only provides greater reasons to use this Transmitter. In one of the photos, you'll see an HDMI splitter that also has RCA and Optical connections for audio out options. The goal was to transmit from the splitter (which also connects to my projector) to the LaguLake Soundbar, 2.1 Channel TV Sound Bar system across the room (see photo). Prior to Avantree device, I had used a similar Tao device that was a couple of years old that decided to stop working after ~18 months which was a bummer. It was a great device; however, I struggled with the audio sync between the splitter and the Bluetooth speaker system at times which was frustrating and annoying. So, with that configuration, the only challenge was NOT following the directions. I couldn't figure out why, when I pushed the 'pairing' button, nothing happened. Well, it helps to turn on the device first, once I figured that out, it automatically went into pairing mode and paired with the Bluetooth speaker system in about 10 seconds and I was good to go! The most important thing to me is that the audio matches the person's lips. The previous device was good; however, it was older technology, had a shorter range, and you could tell that it wasn't always quite in sync which made it frustrating. The distance this transmits and the fact there is no latency and the audio syncs up perfectly through my fire stick was a huge win out of the box! The video is only attached to demonstrate/validate that the audio synch works. The sound is better in my basement so ignore the audio quality - the intent is to show the sync. I'll come back, especially if it does not prove to be reliable, etc. But first look and review, this is solid and a worthwhile investment!

Excellent to play music on 4 True Wireless Stereo Bluetooth speakers!
I will write a review of this device for a very specific use and because I hope it may help someone else since before buying it nobody was able to confirm if my setup would work or not with this device. I bought this transmitter to connect 2 pairs of Bluetooth speakers that can play in TWS (True Wireless Stereo) since my idea was to install 4 Bluetooth speakers embedded in my walls in my living room to play music or watch movies with a completely cable free setup and a nice stereo sound. With TWS you have 2 Bluetooth speakers that pair between each other and one play the left audio channel and the other one the right audio channel. I had 2 pairs of these one pair in the front and one pair in the back. Once the 2 speakers are paired in stereo mode you can pair one of them to your Bluetooth enabled device, like cellphone or android tv for example. So I bought 2 pairs of Oontz angle3 raindance Bluetooth speakers and this transmitter. With that device i would be able to play 4 speakers at the same time from my cellphone or from my tv or androind tv. Even Avantree support told me it "would likely not work" but I still bought it and well.....it works amazingly!! I can either connect my cellphone via 3.5 mm cable to play music on 4 speakers in stereo or connect optical output of my tv to watch movies on this completely wireless setup!! This is great! I must say for movie watching on my tv there is a small audio delay induced by Bluetooth but it is still decent. For music it is really perfect! So if someone is trying to build up a similar setup know that it will work at least i can confirm it works with rhe Oontz Angle3 raindance Bluetooth speakers but not sure with another brand. Hope that will be useful to someone with the same idea.

Item is useless if you use it with a TV
I purchased this to set up two headsets using the optical out. Obviously, everything was connected and hidden behind the TV so it wasn't an eyesore. I connected it to USB power so it always had power at all times. It worked fine once it was set up but the next day it didn't work. I had to manually get behind the tv and turn it on again. I did this for three days and is was getting very annoying. On the off hand chance maybe something was set up wrong, I contacted the company to ask about this issue and how I could set it so that it always stayed on and ready to use. After a week of back and forth emails they finally said that the device worked correctly, but that it was not designed to stay on. Essentially, the design of the device was poorly conceived. Their first suggestion was to return it (which I did) and buy their more expensive unit (which I didn't). Their customer service was poor at best. I purchased another similar device which was actually less expensive than this one and it worked perfectly. It doesn't shut off in between uses. If you don't want to have to get up to turn it on every time you want to use the device, then steer clear of getting this one.

TWO devices later... 🙃 BEWARE of new/updated item on the SAME Amazon listing 👀
Unfortunately, this transmitter was such a headache... but we have a happy ending, keep reading. THE OLD DEVICE (same listing) I was not able to transfer the audio from the tv with this transmitter although the device claimed it was connected. I was trying to connect this to different headphones including the Mpow and Sony WH100XM2 headphones. Every attempt was unsuccessful and never connected the audio, not even once. I tried this on a NON-smart TV, that had the proper hookups in the back of the tv panel. These are the steps I took: 1. Plugged the white/red cord into TV 2. Turned the switch to TX 3. The transmitter starts blinking and I connected it to the headphones 4. The headphones say connected + the light stops blinking 5. NO SOUND will connect to the headphone(s) even though it says paired. 6. I tried switching my TV's audio settings (PCM, Surround, Surround + PCM) around but nothing worked. 7. Repeated, too many times to count. After messaging the seller, communicating directly with Avantree's support team, the issue remained unresolved. After sending them images of my tv's connection, they deemed the box incompatible and defective (which they said was "rare"). Avantree's support team was very nice and helpful, they offered to send a replacement but I requested a refund instead. A few months later, they sent me the new/updated version the "TC417 Bluetooth Transmitter/Receiver," which actually worked without any connection issues. THE NEW DEVICE (same listing) PLEASE NOTE: This listing is constantly being updated with the NEWEST Avantree item. The one I received (the defective one) is NOT the same item for this listing. BUT, the product link/page IS the same... not sure if Amazon or the seller is aware of this. The New device connects easily but DOES have a lot of static and shorter-range without dropping its connection. This will be annoying for watching Youtube videos as you will get a lot of hissing whenever someone stops talking. I would only use this device to play music or watch HD sound-quality movies. Not sure why this is only an issue for watching Youtube videos... but the hissing sounds are only apparent on Youtube or Game Streaming. I would recommend this current/new TC417 device now that it has been updated but would be cautious of the static. I hope this somewhat helps :)

Good little transmitter!
I bought a big TCL UHD TV and a great pair of Sony noise-cancelling headphones 6 months ago, but needed a transmitter to use them together. It's only necessary in the summer when I have A/C and/or various fans running with windows open and cannot hear the TV over ambient noise. I did extensive research, but went back and forth on how much I wanted to spend, how much I needed for 1 set of headphones. This little unit was perfect. The charge lasts for about 12 hours (of use) before it needs at least 2 hours to charge up via USB plug or computer and it cannot be simultaneously charged and used. But that is about how much constant use I get out of the headphones charge, so if you keep track of the charge time, you can charge both overnight. The only problem I had was re-connecting the pair. The instructions said to turn on the unit, then turn on the headphones to search for each other. Perhaps that's just the first time, because every other time when the Avantree claimed to be connected, there's no way to tell what it connected to: the computer, my phone...because it wasn't the headphones. I've found it's easiest to connect the headphones to the transmitter by doing this: turn off my phone's bluetooth, turn on the headphones, then turn on Avantree to have them sync immediately, then turn on the phone bluetooth when I need it. Sound has never lagged, cut out or gotten static-y, even as I move through the house. I have only used it as a transmitter. There are several ways to attach it to the TV; I went with the optic input and have no regrets. I highly recommend this.
