A lot of content for so little money
This book really makes an interesting reading. Though I am from Oracle - and people my think this makes me biased - my core technology scope is not SOA. So I approached this book with the eyes of a child, trying to get the most out of it.So far I like this book (so far because I did not finished reading it - given all the online chapters it could take me until 2011 anyway). It is very well written with a comprehensive story line that not only guides you through the chanpters and use of various Oracle SOA products, but also gives you some history data about from where and when technology joined the Oracle stack. I also like that Lucas, though an Oracle ACE Director, keeps his distance to Oracle and the stack and therefore doesn't spare with his honest opinion. If there was something negative to say about the book then only that it contains so much information you would want to carry in your head, instead of Lucas in his. However, 800+ pages give you a chance to go en par with Lucas. And if you look at the online content, you almost find a second book for free. In summary - as a non SOA person I like what I see and I am eager to read more. As my personal favorite, I like the ADF integration chapters (which is what I know the best and what I immediately understood was extremely well investigated and covered in the book).

Not the best option
SOA is about business, indeed. But this book spend a lot of unnecessary time explaining about St Mathews Hospital business and about its employees relationship. I didn't like it. Besides, there is a lot of references to online content. It would be good if the online content were extra material, but not. It's not possible to follow the explanation and to do practical exercises without the online content. I also didn't like it. If I buy a paper book I want all main information in the paper book!

nice book for SOA certification
i've liked because it shorted on point for SOA certification (but its format isn't good for developers). With focus in architecture and to know only an overview about integration between BPM, SOA, EDA and others platforms recomend it strongly such as start point...

Great detail book to explore Oracle SOA Suite
Excellent and detail book to explore Oracle SOA Suite. It shows the concepts using an example. It is very detail and full of figures (740 pages). If your goal is to explore Oracle SOA Suite, this is one of the book you need to read.

Excellent Use-Cases for SOA in context of Oracle Products
Oracle SOA Suite 11g Handbook is thick pile of paper with well thought and organized content. This book isn't full blown "explain it all" with 100 pages of installation instructions (they are as extras in internet) and way too much pictures (they are also in internet), but it's more of excellently distilled and well balanced textbook which has good mixture of theory and practical product specific tips. I haven't read from internet extras, which expand cover of book and give step by step details for examples, but even without those this book just shines and shows such commitment that it's rare. I recommend this book for all that are preparing to Oracle SOA certification and I can 100% guarantee that it helps - I've done it with this book, you can do it also.. No other references are needed.
