Zippy performance in a very small package IF you actually get the "Mini" version
NOTE: My usage does not involve gaming. I wanted a smaller PC for office use, surfing and monitoring one surveillance camera. The Good: Very compact, I was surprised at how small it is. Can easily pick it up and lift it with one hand. I most definitely got the "Mini" version (i.e. not just Small Form Factor). What I received is 2" larger in 2 dimensions compared to a 5X5 NUC (Next Unit of Computing form factor). Zippy performance on this HP with a Core i5 2.5 Ghz CPU. (Perspective: For YouTube 1080p and general surfing, this HP 800 Elitedesk feels as fast as my other PCs which are i7-4790K with 16GB RAM PCs that have top quality Solid State Drives). Boots quickly. No overheating. Once I started using it, I said to myself "Why do people even bother with Intel (or AMD) NUCs? (i.e. the 5X5" "Next Unit of Computing" form factor). From what I read, many of the people that go with NUC sized units have nothing but overheating and driver problems. None of that here with this HP unit. 256GB Fast SSD drive but after formatting and putting windows on it, you get 233GB - still pretty good. Totally silent. Many USB 3.0 ports. The Bad: No HDMI out. It has Display Port and VGA. ( I ordered a DP to HDMI adapter. We'll see. For now I'm using VGA as a workaround.) No Operating System disk as a fail safe if I needed to do a reinstall / repair. No OS image on USB drive, or recovery partition (that I can find) provided on the SSD drive. No papers or instructions of any kind - which doesn't bug me that much but no license key is a bit annoying. You boot as Local Adminstrator with a "Null" (blank set) password. I immediately reset it and created other accounts for daily use. There are many Amazon "resellers" of this HP. I deliberately chose one with a 100% rating and paid 40 - 50 dollars more for that. I can say that the computer I received is what was actually pictured/listed/presented. Mine arrived packaged well and came with basic keyboard and mouse. ABSOLUTELY NO BLOATWARE.. YAY! So far, I am very pleased with what I got. I think if you were to buy from a lowball (bottom price or rating) you are asking for trouble. YMMV. I can definitely recommend this PC...IF ...what you receive is what is pictured/presented fulfilled from a reliable Amazon reseller (sub vendor?). Again, I was pleasantly surprised by the performance and value I got. In the future I may give up on custom build-my-own full sized PCs. UPDATE: My SSD (Solid State Drive) died after 6 months. It was an off brand, but for the time it worked it was very fast. PC abruptly became unbootable, the "hard drive" utility check in the BIOS confirmed it was dead. THE BAD NEWS: I had to order a replacement drive as I was way beyond the resellers 90 day warranty. I stepped up to a Samsung 870 SATA SSD drive. THE GOOD NEWS: In their defense, they pointed out that my Windows 10 install key was embedded in the PC - presumably in the BIOS firmware. This saved me $140 on the purchase of a new copy of Windows 10 Pro. All I had to do is find a spare USB drive (8GB minimum, I used a verbatim 16GB USB), go to the Microsoft Windows 10 download site. I did ** NOT ** chose the ISO option. The software was literally placed on the USB drive ready to go. When I power cycled it, Windows 10 installer came up and NEVER prompted me for a license key! Yay! And once install was completed, there is no prompt for activation. TLDR: The Install Key - FOR THE MODEL I BOUGHT AND RECEIVED - was embedded in the HP Elite BIOS. This is a pretty cool thing! Addendum: HP provides this micro-thin, custom SSD data/power connector on this PC. Is looks to be custom and care should be handling it as it is PCB tracings on a thin flexible plastic. HOWEVER, it works great! They had to engineer it this way to get things this compact. BOTTOM LINE: Changing / upgrading the SSD on this unit is VERY low hassle! Cheers!

Really good basic pc for a great price
For the price this mini pc can do all the basics. Even play some older games but nothing too recent or graphic intensive. I bought it for an older family member who was just learning how to us a pc and it worked out well. Loads quickly pretty quiets. Does get a little warm with prolonged usage. Came with everything needed to get up and running. It came with win 10 a the time been using over a year and still no issues. Has built in sound card as well.

TLDR: pretty good, some caveats...
Somewhat Dated hardware, but these have great bang for the buck, I run 2 full Dell M1000e Blade Servers in my home lab, and about 10 of these little workhorses for IOT data aggregation, a couple Intranet servers and other functions, I'd recommend HDDs for DB service and SSDs if you perform a lot of in memory data processing - I have had a couple SSDs fail on DB service, they likely exceeded their R/W MTBF cycles (one worked fine for 6 months, then failed in HOURS after I transitioned a DB onto it - I assumed it had a HDD as the rest of that batch did - oops) other than being old hardware and challenges/limitations on upgrades they have been mostly great - I should note, out the 10 running 2 had to be returned/re-purchased as they arrived dead or malfunctioning. "not everyone is a winner, all the time." but the easy returns meant it was a minor glitch.

Small, quiet machine for home server applications
These are great little computers for home server applications. I have two of them running 24/7 on my home network and they have been very reliable. I dumped Windows 10 and installed Linux Mint on both. I have one running Plex and serving up my personal media collection and the other functions as my security camera DVR. I will soon add a third one as a Network Attached Storage for local cell phone photo backup.

Gizmo Bing Review: NOT RENEWED OR TESTED SUFFICIENTLY -DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!!!!
AMAZON REMOVE THEM FROM APPROVED REMANUFACTURER LIST... First the unit itself. It's perfect for everyday computing web browsing and video streaming like Plex or Jellyfin. Super small form factor, quiet, and decent multitasker. MY problem is with "GIZMO BING" seller. The attached photos are what I found right when I opened the case to see how well they went through the unit when they remanufactured it. Besides a new "Tech Magnet" (Ultra cheap ssd) drive with a sticker stating it has windows 10 on it there was nothing touched. The dust and dinge buildup looked like a unit that hadn't been dusted in years AND WHATS WITH THE BUG!!! There was also evidence of some fluid inside the case with water spots on the back edge by the CPU exhaust port. Here was my list of issues as I started to test the unit and my fixes. I'll follow up with my response I received from GIZMO BING! NEVER BUY FROM THEM 1.) Thermal Throttle on load (Bad CPU/cooler thermal paste)- I attempted to run a few stress tests to see how it handled a load and also thermals. I was sidetracked by slow boot-up, system hangs on boot, random freezes and crashes. (all after system hardware and software updated from HP) This ended up being a memory problem so I had to buy RAM. Once I was stable and able to run some stress tests I could barely go 5 minutes till it would start to thermal throttle the CPU. This is only a 35w cpu with an active cooler...this should not be an issue. The cooler and fan were dusty and had a few minor blockages I blew out when I cleaned the unit. I decided to check the cpu and cooler contact and thermal paste. When I checked it was like chalk, it was dried and cracked. I had to get some thermal paste reapply the air cooler. Once that was changed I could run the system under 100% load for hours and still have 25 to 28 deg C distance to thermal throttle for the CPU. 2.) System hang, boot erratic and memory test failure (new DDR4 ram sticks)- See above " I was sidetracked by slow boot-up, system hangs on boot, random freezes and crashes. (all after system hardware and software updated from HP) This ended up being a memory problem so I had to buy RAM." After these issue I found the problem running memtest to see if there was a failure with the ram and there was. When I replaced it it ran fine and smooth. 3.) System has a M.2 ssd slot- Unusable due to dirty contacts, I cleaned them and I was able to get it to read correctly and install the OS onto it because I didn't trust the cheap bulk 2.5in SSD. Unit was dirty in general, I had to blow it out and remove dust from fan and CPU cooler along with cleaning off some sticky dried on fluid from cooler as well as from motherboard. I'm just glad nothing shorted out. So after a few days and half the cost of the unit later (not counting my time) I was left with a great unit. When I reached out to the company on a weekend I was told I would receive a call back during the week about a partial refund. I felt that was fair due to having to spend about $100 dollars or more to get it working properly and "remanufacture" it myself because besides a new SSD the unit wasn't even touched. I hope AMAZON reads this and removes GIZMO BING from their approved remanufacturer list and makes them list this unit as "USED." I was happy to pay more for a unit I didn't have to rework myself to get working properly, I was upset I spent over $200 on a unit I could have gotten used for cheaper and fixed myself. Overall, I'm very disappointed with this purchase and seller. If I didn't have the tech knowledge and experience I have I would have probably been a more upset customer and returned the unit. I have attempted twice now to talk about a partial refund due to time and money I spent to repair the unit and both times I was told I had to call back Monday or a week day because no manager was avalible to help me.

I've purchased multiple HP 800 series mini-pcs over the years and they have all been great at their given tasks. For instance, two deployed at the moment are: - Running a 24/7/365 Twitch stream (Music videos, been going non-stop for a year now) - Feeding calendar/photo slideshow/security cam to multiple monitors in our home These little PCs are great and can do most anything you throw at them, within reason. They are clearly not meant to be gaming computers, but will easily run low end games like Minecraft, browser games, NES/SNES/Sega/PS1-3 emulators, etc. They are built for office work, so you could use it as an actual workstation until the sun burned out. Pros: - Tiny, easy to hide behind a TV/monitor or in your utility room as a server - Solid material and workmanship - Reliable, very set-and-forget capable Cons: - None, yet

I've worked with these before and decided to buy my own. It's a great system for home or office and is small, light, and quiet. It's expandable with both an M.2 slot and a SATA connector. It worked great from the start. The only draw back is the ram. 8 GB of ram is great for most uses but if you don't want to add more it will be hard to find as it seems to only take DDR4 2133. I tried some 2666 I had on hand and it only errors out so I looked up the specks online from HP and it only lists 2133 bus as compatible. Other than that it's a really good little system.

Works as expected, was clean and the fan was replaced which is the main concern I had...original fan would have been bad. Adding a Samsung Evo SSD made a nice improvement but it did have a Lexar 256 GB installed, RAM is fine and it does an excellent job as an HTPC for my son.

I'm sure the computer itself is great but the first one I received just beeped a post error at me, opening it up there is no SSD inside. Same with the second one, it wont turn on and no SSD inside. Someone has mislabeled these or didn't confirm they were working prior to selling them.
