SQL Basics Joes 2 Pros: A Getting Started Guide to Administering and Developing SQL Server Databases for Beginners

I bought this book hoping to learn SQL and with a lot of different expectations. The reason I have come to appreciate this book has nothing do with SQL at all. The book provides information about the need for SQL server, SQL careers and certification - the top questions on a beginner's mind. I have got a good appreciation for SQL server and what to make of my newly gained knowledge on SQL after reading this book.For the content itself, it is well organized. It starts with the link to a free version of SQL server and setting up the lab. Important points are summarized and there is a quiz after each chapter. There are some simple chapters on commenting, using the SQL admin tool (Management studio) which are really useful. This book links to their website to provide more information on some labs. There seems to be more free videos on their site that I have not explored yet.The book is a steal at the price it is offered.

SQL Basci Joes 2 Pros is concises and clear explanations that any beginer reader can follow it throughout the book. It is very enjoyable reading book. Hightly recommend to my friends.

I have a lot of experience and exposure to the simpler aspects of databases but I wanted to gain some deeper knowledge. I searched around and found Joes 2 Pros. I figured it was worth a shot and decided to get the paperback version.After it got here it sat for a couple days but when I started to get into it I appreciated the writing style and my ability to understand the deeper information about design and usage. I'm perfectly comfortable with simple select statements but my knowledge get a bit weaker the further I go in.I found the information on Joining tables and specifically Inner Joins interesting because I can do simple joins but this helped me understand it more and gave me a better comfort level.His points to ponder are a nice little check list types of info that summarize and wrap up the chapters in a simple way.So far I like the Joes 2 Pros series and Mr. Morelan's writing.

I was surprised at how very well this has been written. I'm not the most computer savvy person, however, I have a much deeper grasp on SQL than I ever did in a hands on working environment. Actually, I think anyone even being given queries to run should definately pick this book up and start reading.The examples used to relate how this works in everyday business are great. This is completely reader friendly. It's warm and very easy to understand. It's like a friend sitting with me to show me the same. Too bad I isn't have access to something like this before when I was in finance, because I could have knocked my bosses socks off. Between the labs, tests, glossary and text, I know what I read and learn will stick in my head, and there's no frustration of not understanding or being overwhelmed. What a great training and learning tool, THANK YOU!

You really can't go wrong with any of the joes 2 pros products. I'm using a lot of what I learned in this book on a daily basis, and as a "reluctant dba", it's handy to have as a reference.

As someone new to SQL the simple straightforward way this book is laid out makes it easier to read and understand. It is also very useful as a quick reference guide. Highly recommended.

First of all I want to say that I am 56 years old and know very little about SQL. I have tried to learn Queries and DB administration a few times before but had very little success. This book has been a huge help in walking me thru step by step with one lesson building on the next. It is a very efficient way to learn. I do have to say that after I started reading the book I wanted more so I went to [...] and he has these same lessons as video lessons....its AWESOME!! I am now able to read the book go online work on the same thing I just read all at my own pace. I have gone thru the book once and now I am going back thru even more slowly and really learning this. I am looking forward to having another skillset in my toolbelt and this is the best way to get to the level I want to get to in the shortest amount of time...Very happy in Woodinville! :)
