Husband needed this book for a training course he is taking.

A couple of months ago, my department began the initial process of starting a K9 unit from scratch. I sent out letters and emails to kennels all over the Midwest and South. The first kennel to get back with me was Tony Smith and his kennel, Little Rock K9 Academy. From the first contact, Tony has been great. We have not finished raising the money to purchase a dog, but Tony contacts me once a week and has been there for any questions that have come up along the way. He will tell you that customer service is of grave importance to him and his company, but give him a call and he will show you that he means it. This book is basically everything he has told me and more. In my opinion it would be great for any officer interested in becoming a K9 handler or starting a unit. However, I can tell you from experience that it is absolutely essential for small departments starting from scratch. This book will give the basics and make it possible for you to ask the right questions along the way.

This is not the book that I expected when reading the description and reviews I thought this book was going to be a manual about canine teams but instead it is the owner and author of the book bragging about his business

I have had the opportunity to be trained by and work with three other k-9 teams that Tony instructed. The training received there is second to none. This book is extremely informative when it comes to starting a K-9 team for your department or adding an additional team along with all aspects of K-9 training. The dog I work with every night and the other dogs that I have worked along side with their handlers are top of the line in all areas of their job thanks to Tony.

We purchased our departments K-9 from Tony a few years ago. Having several other K-9 throughout the years from different company's, I can say without a doubt Tonys K9 has out performed them hands down. As far as the book goes it to shows the dedication and hard work Tony has put Into his business. If you are truly passionate about K-9 then you will enjoy reading Tony's book.

His services may indeed be as great as he says, but to claim this as a comprehensive manual to developing your own K-9 unit when it is nothing but an advertisement is borderline fraud. The information that is presented is extremely basic and simplistic. There was nothing in here that I did not already know, even with my very limited experience with police K-9s. I notice the other reviewers all know Tony personally and have bought dogs or trained with him, so I am guessing that he does know his business in selecting and training dogs, and does offer good service, but for someone who has not dealt with him and was expecting a knowledgeable helpful book on setting up a K-9 unit, it was a huge disappointment.
