Turk and Runt: A Thanksgiving Comedy

This is my favorite Thanksgiving story! It is action-packed and hilarious. I’ve used it with kids from 5 years to 10 years old. From a teacher’s viewpoint, you can teach action verbs, characterization, sequencing, inferring, predicting, etc. I recently used it with English language learners, and the verbiage is easy to act out so that different levels can understand the story line. Excellent book.

This book is hilarious! I read this book every year in my kindergarten class and the kids just love it. For two years now I've used the book as the script for our class play. Its a great hit with parents and friends who come see the kids. There are also enough one or two liners so that the kids can memorize the parts. The story line is simple enough so young children can follow along but silly enough to engage all ages. My students and I give it two thumbs up each year.

This story is a really cute story about 2 brother turkeys and how they save each other from being someone's Thanksgiving dinner. I first saw the book last year at a little private school and heard the librarian read it to each 2nd grade and 5th grade class on the day I was there. I borrowed it to read at the school 2 or my grandkids attend. They loved it, so I had to have my own. It's very entertaining. I would recommend this to families with younger children and every elementary library of teacher needs a copy.

I bought this book for a Thanksgiving unit for my students and to this day, it is still one of their favorite books we’ve done a read-aloud with. It’s funny for kids while also imbedding lines that can be used to discuss inferencing and a wide variety of vocabulary that can be used in an extension.

I was excited to receive my book so quickly. It arrived in perfect condition and my students absolutely loved this story. It is super funny and I will read it next year closer to Thanksgiving. Thank you so much!

Poor Runt is the misunderstood sibling in this Thanksgiving tale. He just wants to save his brother from the dinner table but "nobody listens to Runt." There are lots of details in the illustrations and the repetitive narrative of the story grabs little ones right into the story. I read this to my preschool class for years and bought a copy for myself to read to my someday grandchildren. For me, this is a Thanksgiving classic and sure to make turkey feathers wiggle!

Love the story! It can be used to teach many skills. My only wish would be for an updated version... detailed illustrations, but out-dated which turns many young readers away today.
