Worth buying even if you have M is for Data Monkey
Data Monkey was great so I didn't buy this book for a few years. I've had projects recently that had me pulling Data Monkey off the shelf. In flipping through Data Monkey again, I realized I should work through it again as a refresher. Rather than do that, I decided to get this updated version. It was a good investment. In addition to covering material on newer developments, some of the cleaning techniques have been refined and expanded. Overall, I'd recommend it even if you have M is for Data Monkey.Like another reviewer, some of the grammar drives me bananas. I didn't take a star off, but they should do better than this.

Essential for those new to Power Query.
For those who are starting out with Power Query, this is a must-read. Very clear explanations. Personally I would have liked to see a lot more details regarding the M language, even a whole section on programming with M with an in-depth exploration of the execution model and functional programming with M since it is not immediately obvious how to use the full power of its syntax and functions in its library. Especially accessing a REST API with M is very esoteric. You'll find explanations online, but a book like this would do much better job at explaining this particular use case IMHO considering that the authors have a very clear and didactic way of writing.

Highly Recommend
No, Ken and Miguel don't have me on commission. But even if they did, I could not be more sincere in my recommendation for their latest version of their Power Query reference book.I had purchased the original title shortly after it was published and that version was very good. But a change in jobs meant that I no longer needed to be a power query ninja and what I had learned atrophied over the years. Cut to a couple of months ago and my job responsibilities changed dramatically and I found myself needing Power Query skills again. And to my extreme pleasure I found that a new edition of their book was just being published. I bought a couple of other PQ and Power BI books and while they're also good, none takes the place of Ken & Miguel's work here. Their practical "in-the-trenches" experience shows through time and again as they point out little places where you are likely to "stub your toe" as you are trying to get things accomplished in the real world. They walk you through lots of good examples using the data sets you download from the internet. Do they cover every single item in the Power Query universe? No, I'd love to see an exercise on doing incremental loads and a couple of other little things. But overall, they cover a LOT, and they cover it very well. At least as of late 2021, all of the screenshots, etc. are very current. If you are trying to bootstrap yourself on Power Query or trying to improve your skills in PQ, I would recommend this book without reservation.

Demystifies ambiguity with good explanation and detailed hands-on examples!!!
I am a small business owner and gained business insights of my own quickbooks dataset using Power BI. I generated very powerful reports with Power BI but needed more understanding of data shaping using Power Query.I decided to go for PL-300 certification and for the exam preparation this book has been extraordinary help.

This book is making Power Query my new data super power
This book does a great job walking the reader through the user interface in PQ as well as more hands on use of the M language. The chapters are fairly condensed and very clear and factual. As a business side non-programmer, this book is written at just the right ‘technical speak’ for me to comprehend and pick up some pretty amazing gains in my understanding of PQ. I enjoyed learning the details behind the product, as well as picking up a ton of new practical applications that will benefit my work with data. Thank you Ken and Miguel!

For intermediate PQ users
I waited this book for two years, pre-ordering in 2019 I believe, and it did not disappoint. In addition to the enhanced beginning level it now covers, this book also gets into understanding M coding better, which helps readers at intermediate level tremendously. By "enhanced beginning level", I meant it looks at generating queries in a holistic way, i.e. building complex queries from the ground up. This book is best fit for PQ users who have a few years of working experience of using PQ.

Invaluable resource for Power Query
This book clearly sets out the basics - such as a definition for 'binary' data type - it just means its a file. It gives step by step instructions for each example and has downloadable example files to practice. While it covers basic items thoroughly, it also gets into much more advanced stuff, such as query folding, MCode and parameters. Even those quite familiar with PQ will find this book a great source. I recommend it for those new to PQ and for more advanced users.
