Smithsonian Science Activities Robo Spider Kit, Blue

This is a great toy for children who like to build mechanical things from scratch and who can follow (or have parents who can follow) technical drawings. If you are the type who struggles to put together Ikea furniture or follow technical instructions then I suggest you try something else as you are likely to find this overwhelming and/or frustrating.My 8 year old loved putting this together (he needed help from me though) and was thrilled when the spider started to work on it's own - but you need to pay attention to the drawings - how you put this together matters.I noted some folks complained that it spider stopped working shortly after competion. This is likely due to the battery contacts needing adjustment rather than a failure (you need to manually wire these up as part of the build). If it doesn't power up, I suggest this is where you look first.We also need to manually adjust the driving axle during construction. It wasn't evenly aligned when it came out of the box - it was not clear if this was by design or not and was easy enough to correct once it was apparent it was a problem (but do it gently if you need to do this). It was not mentioned anywhere in the instructions, but it clearly needed to be tweaked before we could finish the build. I suspect your mileage will vary on that issue but understand you might need to move the axle so it is evenly split. Hope this helps a few of you out.

My grandson was thrilled to get this gift. It entertained him while building it and also was fun to play with.

Great for thinking about articulated joints but it moves slowly and can't turn so I can't imagine it would hold a youth's attention for more than the time it takes to assemble. However, the assembly was painless and the parts are well thought out to make the process as simple as possible.

It was easy to assemble for the parents, with the help of my 4- year ograndson son. He loves his robo spider so much he took it to the park in a bag and showed it to children on the playground. I only wish there were more robo projects of this nature.

This was really complicated to put together and then broke really quickly. Very disappointed.

I bought this item as a project for my 4 year old son and I. The directions were easy to follow and we were able to put it together in about 30 minutes. However the materials for this product are cheap and it only lasted for a few days of play before it fell apart and the motor died. I guess It was ok for the price, but i would not suggest it if you are looking for something that will last.

Compramos o produto, dei de presente para as minhas filhas. Montamos em família, não veio com a pilha. Compramos pilhas. Quando colocamos a pilha, o motor não funciona. Revisei a instalação várias vezes. Uma decepção, e uma frustração para as crianças. Tomem cuidado com esses produtos. Espero que seus filhos não passem pelo que eu passei.
