I ordered it directly from coolhands and it was a proto type they sent me with a little note. I originally ordered the black and white micarta w/o the tablet nib. I was bugging out to see this in the box it was much more nicer and better crafted the the original the milling was much more nicer and smoother that the first one I own a few of there pens. If you need a budget pen that crafted better that the big boy companies you have to buy coolhands the quality is the same or better than most companies out there

Edit: As of 6/18/25 the screw broke on the clip, and It will no longer stay in my pocket as the clip can now flip around upside down. Such a let down, the pen is so comfortable and writes really good, but not including spare spacers and screws is annoying. So basically it's now a house pen. Absolutely love this pen! I carry it at work every single day as an EDC pen, I use it many times a day..Ink cartridge is great, smooth writing, bolt action is smooth, stays secure when not in use.. Functional, and stylish! Best of both worlds! My only "con" is the pocket clip isn't designed the greatest so it moves from side to side..Had to get a torx and tighten it down as tight as I could. Other than that, a great EDC pen!

I am an EDC fanatic and fairly active in the EDC community. I carry my pen and knife side-by-side in my pocket, and several of my nice knives were being scratched by my steel Zebra F-701. Conversely, several of my plastic pens were being scratched by my knives when I switched to using those. I purchased this pen to fix the problem and it has worked! The micarta is soft enough that it doesn't wear down the knife coating as quickly as steel, but is hard enough that if it does rub against the knife, it isn't visible. Any scuffs on the micarta wipe right off with a wet rag. The bolt action is a bonus and has operated flawlessly when needed (and as a fidget). I haven't had any issue with the clip becoming loose, and if it gets bumped out of place, I just shift it back. Hasn't bent or stripped away from the pen after several months of use. Highly recommend this item to add a unique touch to your EDC!

Pros: Micarta material is great to hold and feel in hands, good clip. Top of pen is open, allowing the bolt to be visualized as open or closed (clicked or unclicked). Cool little knob on the bolt. Cons: The bolt mechanism is a little off. First thing I noticed was the roughness of the action, which hopefully can wear down with time. Second, the spring is quite stiff. Third, when resetting the bolt on the way up, there is a slight bump at the top, indicating there is a slight lip or rise somewhere inside "action," which is definitely perceptible and is not smooth. I think this was a great concept, and indeed I mentioned some issues I could fix myself, but ideally we purchase these pens to be "good-to-go."

I own several “tactical pens” Bench made, boker even fancy pens like Mont Blanc all are more expensive yet this is my favorite. This is the exact same pen as the boker .50 that cost about 80$ Bolt action is smooth and the Micarta is the coolest material I ever seen for a pen. It is light and has a great texture and feel. Can’t explain it. Grab this pen and let it figet away your stress at least you will not have buyers remorse!!! If you think BOKER makes their pens in Germany, I have a bridge to sell you….lol
