Indie Publishing: How to Design and Produce Your Own Book

Info that I didn't realize I would need
I liked that this book gives details about font settings and gives leads to other software and publishing techniques that a "rookie" like me would have not considered.Consider how much you know about independent publishing before the purchase, you may be wasting money (by finding out things you already know). This book impacted me by giving me even more hope that, not only can I get published, but also that it could be better quality. The only thing I have to compare this book to is the fact that "you can publish through any POD service". I found some of the POD services to be a scam through word of mouth.

Good inspiration
There is some very good inspiration in this little book. There is also some very nice instruction on book construction. I do wish they had spent some time talking about or mentioning some of very good open source graphics apps instead of all the really expensive apps. That would have balanced the book better. But then I guess you can't expect much else from people who are trained in graphic design and tend to be a bit biased. All in all though I would recommend this book as an inspiration tool.

Only Good For Casual Interest
If you hold a very casual interest in self-publishing, you might enjoy the book. However, if you have a serious interest and/or need information about self-publishing for yourself, save your money and move on.I'm not sure why this book was recommended, it is superfluous at best. I am actually fairly disappointed in it thus far. It's not the writing, that's fine, it's the lack of writing. The author has crammed as many pictures in it as possible and opted for very thick pages to make the book seem more in-depth and gratuitous than it is in actuality. It's like one could have spent a week googling all the information and written this thing, I don't get a feeling this person knows more than what they are explaining in the pages, and even those explanations are more a summary of real information which is not included.

Excellent resource
This is an excellent resource for those thinking about doing an independent publishing project. As an introduction to the subject, it covers all aspects of the process. It backs up it's carefully written text with the fact the book itself is so well designed.

Not exactly what I thought
I thought the book would be more of a help on what I need to do to publish through Amazon. Instead it's more fixated on how to design and make your own book.

Smart and practical
Takes you through a number of design and production processes on the way to publishing your own content. One of the sample projects is called Sexy Librarian: funny as well as informative!

Good for the basics
A basic outline of the methods, processes and theory that go into creating a book. Nothing really exciting but I would recommend to anyone who likes their art & craft. Would only recommend as quick read if you're designing for professional purposes.
