Do they all have a different taste from each other? I don't understand why there are different types if they taste the same.

Taste may vary based on topping and popping method. Popcorn pops in different sizes and some are crunchier than others. And, the amount of hulls varies by variety.

Do you really need a special container for popping it in the microwave?

No, you can use a microwave safe container/bowl to pop popcorn in a microwave. You will just want to have a container that has a lid on it so you don't make a mess in the microwave. We have several people that use a glass bowl with a lid to pop their popcorn in their microwave.

Can these kernels be popped in silicone, microwave bowls?

Yes. That is what I use. Instructions advise power level 7 or 8 for microwaves over 1000 watt. I have found that 5 works best for me. This is really good corn!

can someone tell what this different 'flavors' are?

List in the 4 oz Variety Pack of 10 are: Mushroom, Purple, Extra Large Caramel Type, Red, Baby White, Medium Yellow, Rainbow, Ladyfinger, Blue, Medium White. For details about each "flavor" go to the Amish Country Popcorn website. It's really interesting. This pack was a great way to discover our favorite, which so far is Mushroom because the popped corn is like a big puffy ball that melts in the mouth.
