Q: How many lbs can it hold?

I'm not sure exactly how many lbs but it holds a container in place on a bus with bumpy roads that holds 27 clip boards 40 pens and 50 pieces of paper through the heat of summer and cold of winter.

Q: i just got it yesterday and it’s not magnetic

It is magnetic, not overly strong, it worked for my application. You may need to increase the number of strips you use. Remember one side has adhesive backing that you peel off to affix to one of the surfaces.

Q: how well does it stick to wood? say sanded plywood, nice surface.

My cabinet door would not stay shut. Tape worked great.

Q: 2 pieces cut of equal length; Will the magnetic sides attract/stick together?

I am not sure; I used the tape underneath a magnet label on my dry erase white board. The label wouldn't hold so I put a strip of this tape on first and now the magnet stays put.
