Q: Does it have a catch to keep it up once extended.

Yup. It stays at whatever level you pull it up to right up until you push it back down again.

Q: Is this item waterproof?

NO. Be very careful when considering its placement. Basically it's just a vertical 3 gang extension that slides up and down. I have placed mine at the very edge away from any water source. It accomdates the kettle and an Nespresso machine and very handy for USB use. TIP always use the bottom socket first as it slides down due to the weight of the plug.

Excellent quality

Best investment ever. New kitchen fitted into a whole new converted room for it in the house and I was constantly nagging at the other half for not enough plug sockets. I had two in the whole kitchen which is no good. Purchased this to go into island and wow! It is fabulous! Looks stylish, is just a gloried extention lead but it works great, excellent quality and I have finally stopped nagging
