Geritol was introduced as an alcohol-based, iron and B vitamin tonic by Pharmaceuticals, Inc., in August 1950 and primarily marketed as such into the 1970s. Geritol was folded into Pharmaceuticals' 1957 acquisition of J. B. Williams Co., founded in 1885.3 J. B. Williams Co. was later bought out by Nabisco in 1971. In 1982, the Geritol product name was acquired by the multinational pharmaceutical firm Beecham (later GlaxoSmithKline).4 Geritol was acquired by Meda Pharmaceutical in 2011.5 Meda was acquired by Mylan in 2016.6 The earlier Geritol liquid formulation was advertised as "twice the iron in a pound of calf's liver," and daily doses contained about 50–100 milligrams of iron as ferric ammonium citrate. The Geritol tonic also contained about 12% alcohol and some B vitamins.

Is this different than the Geritol Tonic or is it just different packaging. Which one is better. I need energy.

It is the same as geritol tonic. The large packaging makes it easier to use up, as I can only find the small bottles in the stores. Good deal on the price of combo purchase of 3 bottles. It does give you energy. I take in morning in couple ounces of orange juice. Work well for me. It does take about 3 days (72 hrs to really get into your system and I use daily. If energy level is up, you can take every other day or so.

Yes. Double check the description though because there are multiple ways to order this product. Typically its $8-9 or more per bottle IF you can find it at a store. Why is there sodium hydroxide in geritol

Sodium Hydroxide is a VERY COMMON natural compound (found all over the Desert Southwest as 'alkali')...and is used in Geritol (in TINY AMOUNTS) to level the pH of what would otherwise be VERY acidic, combined with the fact that elemental iron is one of the HARDEST substances for the human body to absorb and process (fast enough, anyhow, that you can use it before your body excretes it in a waste-stream). The Sodium Hydroxide is used to assist your body in breaking down the citrus (acid) ferrite (iron) by raising the pH to match your body's pH level...it also prevents MASSIVE stomach upset as a result. (alternatively, if you want to 'experiment' with elemental iron without a corrective pH factor, try the centuries-old method of putting a pure-iron nail into an apple for 3-5 days, then removing the nail and disposing of it, and then eating the apple...it causes MAJOR stomach upset, because the apple acid did break-down the iron in the nail and made it digestable, but without a pH correction, caused MASSIVE stomach distress...and the iron passed from your system without absorption, as a result. Don't freak out of 'chemical names'...most chemicals are as natural as the foods you eat (an example is a deadly chemical called 'DyHydrogen Oxide'....kills people all the time. If you're scared, you might want to consider that Dyhydrogen Oxide is H20...WATER...and between drowning, water toxification, etc., it DOES kill a lot of people each year...)
