Megohmmeter, 250V-2500V Output Voltage Insulation Tester, 1MΩ-200GΩ Ohm Meter Multimeter, Grounding Tester with 100 Groups of Data Storage

I was having a problem with solar wiring and this worked perfectly for figuring out what wire was giving me the problem

It does not display the output voltage when measuring (like other meeters do). It is a good troubleshooting indication to also display the voltage

Summary: Good value but ii would recommend you upgrade the meter leads BEFORE you use this. There are a few quirks but nothing that keeps it from being functional. read on for more info. Detail: Resons I say you need to upgrade the leads. Right off, the meter leads are rated for 1000V and this meter will output 1000v during the highest voltage test. That's a lot like trusting a 200lb rated rope to hold your weight if you weigh 200 lbs. it is highly likely you will be using the leads with the alligator clips. look at the images to see how they attach, they are just bent over the end of the alligator clip and you push the end into that.... that is very poor. this is not the end of the world, good quality leads are easy to get. other things worth noting, the battery compartment has space for 8 batteries but you only use 6. The last two have no connectors on them. kind of odd, see the image. the battery compartment is closed by a self-tapper screw and not a threaded insert so it is more vulnerable to stripping/wearing out over time. accuracy for the insulation resistance is supposed to e +/- 10% I tested this with a resistor that measured 10.5005meg on a calibrated meter. in the first two ranges, it measured 10.4m, on the 250v range, 10.3 on the 500v range, and 13 in the 1000v range. which means the last range is out of spec. I do like that you can use the pushbutton to temporarily do the insulation test or lock it to be on all the time.. I also like that there is a high voltage warning light along with a beep noise to alert you that it is outputting high voltage. the unit also has the ability to be powered from a 9v source and has a convenient carrying strap and a plastic cover. the meter has a backlight which works well and has a hold function, which is a nice plus. so you can hold your reading and turn off the high voltage. Conclusion: After all this, it might sound like I am totally down on this meter, but not really. The main purpose is to do insulation testing and for that, it does work. I will just use some higher-rated test leads.

I like this insulation tester, I am finding a bunch of uses for it, besides checking insulation break down, I was checking some 3kv oil filled capacitors, I was measuring about 1500 meg ohms, so they are good. For an easy check to see if it was working properly, i measured input impedance of my fluke multi meter on the Voltage scale, it measured 10 meg ohms, right on.. Physically , Its light plastic, but that makes it light, it has a large back light display. Comes with probes, batteries. You can also use it as a continuity tester and it does measure dc and ac voltage, but only to the nearest volt. You be better off to use another meter for more accuracy.. Anyway I am happy with unit , it’s a nice addition to my workbench.
