Working so far
So I had this very annoying spot in my backyard where grass wouldn't grow and when raining it made my dog cause such a mess inside the house cause he will come in all muddy so I decided to give this a try and after some weeks I can already see some progress. It is not extremely fast and I advise to be patient and follow instructions if you wanna have higher chances of getting the results you looking for. So far I'm pleased and the price is very affordable.

Great product. Easy to use and germinates in the time described.
We moved recently, and the house we moved into had a lawn that needed some work. A portion of the berm and the front yard was dirt, populated by crab grass and clover, and some spots I would mow over would produce big dust clouds. Not enough bald patches to justify getting sod (in my opinion), but too much where simply seeding would likely attract birds and/or create more work (putting down hay, netting, etc.). Like many of you, I work full time, have a family, and simply don't have the time to do all of that and, given weather patterns, can't rely on the weekend to take care of it. I have better things to do. Looking at the product description, it has a mix of Kentucky bluegrass, fescue, and rye, a great mix of both fast growing and hardy seeds perfect for Zone 6 regions, and also contains fertilizer and recycled mulch. I started filling in patchy spots in April (it is July as I write this), but rather than doing every spot that needed to be filled in, I decided to work in sections. Given how the temperatures have been fluctuating so much (NASA actually just reported that June 2023 was the hottest June on record) and I wasn't certain how much rain we would be getting, I didn't want to do a huge section and waste gallons of water on it to get it to germinate, only to have it expire from the heat (despite what the following may suggest, I almost never water the grass. I have no problem letting it go dormant in the summer heat. The key to it surviving/thriving is not to cut it too short. Do that and save yourself some money). Anyway, this is what I did: 1. Beginning in the morning and using a hand cultivator, I loosened the soil where I wanted to plant, removing any weeds and crabgrass that might compete for the fertilizer and water, going about 1-2" deep. 2. Using a trowel, I scooped the mix in every area I prepped. 3. Using the hand cultivator turned upside down, I gently went over the top where I put the patch mix to encourage the seeds, mulch, and fertilizer to go into the soil and spread out. 4. I gave it a heavy dose of water ("shower" setting on the nozzle) to completely soak the the area for about 15-30 seconds. 5. I did this again in the early evening, watering twice a day for a week (unless we had rain). 6. As advertised, the seeds germinated in a week, after which I watered once a day in the morning until the grass matured and could survive without it (about 2 weeks after germinating) and I could give it a haircut. On cooler days I would skip a day. Seeing the results, I'm certain I could have seeded every large area at once and been done by now (I'm still doing areas, I don't begin a new area until the other area I've done is mature enough to not need so much attention. I'm only doing about 1-2sqft at a time, but I'm not in a rush and would rather make sure everything is done right. The grasses I seeded in April look healthy, strong, and have been mowed/mulched several times, without any ill effects (I currently have the mower deck at 2-3/4"). The small patches in the grass itself that I've done are completely indistinguishable from the rest of the lawn. This is a great product and works exactly as advertised. At $20-$26/10lb. bag, it's a decent price and I would recommend it.

Good All-In-One Mix (But Watch the Weather!)
I picked up the Scotts PatchMaster Lawn Repair Mix Sun + Shade for some stubborn bald spots in my yard. I really like that this product is an all-in-one combination of seed, fertilizer, and mulch, which makes patching those spots incredibly easy. The Sun + Shade mix was perfect for my yard's varied light conditions. Unfortunately, I had no luck on my first attempt. However, I'm confident it wasn't a product failure; we had an unexpected, hard freeze right after planting, which likely killed the new sprouts. Given Scotts' excellent reputation, I'm sure that if you follow the directions as printed, this mix will work well. I'm not deterred and will definitely be replanting when the weather is more reliable!

Easy to grow
Works and looks goodTakes a few days for it to surface. Keep damp but don’t flood water until grass has surfaced.

Stays in Place, Sprouts Well
The biggest problems I have with lawn patch are that many are peat moss based, and simply won't stick to the ground. Perhaps because of this, they usually fill a bare spot irregularly. This product has a carrier that packs to the ground and stays put, and the germination rate is both rapid and even. The grass itself doesn't match my lawn, but the lawn itself will eventually remedy that: lawn patch, after all, is a bandage that enables a bare spot to heal, and this product serves that purpose better than others I've tried. Full marks!

New grass
So far so good. It didn’t really have a smell that I noticed. It seems like it is very good quality. It comes all mixed together. Looks like the grass seeds are held semi-together with like a soft paper blanket like fabric that is also crumbled up. I attached a picture so you can kind of see what I was talking about. It says sun and shade mix so I am really hoping that it works. We spread it out by our front door that for some reason doesn’t really keep grass well. And is shady for most of the day until late afternoon. So far so good we will see how it works.

Long-lasting residue
I trusted this brand, but the product didn't meet expectations. The package contained mostly water-retaining filler material - it covered very little area. Barely any grass seeds grew, and the leftover filler stayed on top of the soil for a long time without breaking down, making my lawn look terrible. Not worth the money for such poor results.

It's pretty versatile.
What’s Great Convenience: No need to buy separate bags of seed and straw. Just spread it and water. Fast Results: You’ll typically see sprouts in about 7 to 10 days. Works Anywhere: The "Sun + Shade" mix is reliable for both bright and shadowed areas. What to Watch Out For Watering: You must keep the patch damp. If the mulch dries out and turns light brown, the new grass will die. Price: You pay a little extra for the convenience of the 3-in-1 mix.

Love this seed _ comes in its own medium - no having to lightly cover with dirt and is growing in a shady patch where heretofore would never take hold. It’s going to be lush and green. Highly recommend.
