I agree with a couple of the other reviewers of the Linksys WAG54GS-UK. Initially, it is not straight forward. Using the CD, after 5 minutes filling out the form it just says "Firmware upgrade failed". After an hour of messing about using Internet Explorer IP address 192.168.1.1, ten minutes of which was spent with an unbent paper-clip up it's back-side, resetting it, I got it to work. I then pressed the "EASY Security Set-up Button". Big Mistake!! Whole thing locked up and I was ready to smash it.Then I thought I'd give it one last chance, and rang Linksys Tech. Support 0800 026 1418, and a very nice man, from just outside Mumbai, spent 10 minutes talking me through setting it up again, including the security. Now I think it's the best thing since "Sliced Bread".I originally reviewed the Linksys WAG54GS above about two years ago. My first WAG54GS is still working fine. I did have a problem with the second one, which I bought for my partner, but that was a re-furbished one from eBay, the replacement, from Linksys, has been working well for two years. I had become so dependent on my one that I bought a spare, just in case. Last week I gave that spare to a friend and have just bought a fourth. I had saved my settings as a file, on my pen drive, and restored those settings to my new WAG54GS. The whole thing was up and running and talking to my laptop, wirelessly, in under two minutes. The golden rules1. Don't install the Linksys software, use Windows to look after the wireless side of things2. Don't press the security button above the power button.3. If you do have problems, make sure there is no noise on you phone line, and that all the required ADSL filters are fitted.4. Lastly, if you are not technically minded or get stuck, ring:Linksys Tech. A Big Mistake
I have been struggling on with this router for 5 months now. This month I have has to reboot (and hence setup from scratch again) at least a dozen times. When it works it works well, but it constantly stops transmitting the wireless signal. This I can normally live with as I have the house fairly well cabled so I just plug the cable in instead of using the wireless. What is worse approximatley twice a week the 4 wired ports stop working as well necessitating a reset.I am going to give Linksys one more chance purely because the retailer has plenty of Linksys units in stock (Perhaps nobody wants them!).Any further problems and I am going to try to get the BT voyager 2110 which has many glowing reviews. Unfortunately this is out of stock due to high demand (Sales speak volumes about reliability). Perhaps the BT product is the only one that really works.

Poor for such a popular supplier
Got this back in Feb, and it was OK, but nothing special..since that i wish i have never got it.... it reset's itself when the mood takes, and freezes regally.. when you try to switch it off and back on, it simple sits with a dull light on the internet connection.. leave it half hour and it strikes up again until the next time it freezes, which should not take too long..very disapointed, and only 3 month guarentee...cleaver timing that..as thats the time it start to act up..Avoid

Almost threw it in the rubbish!
After spending 20 hours trying to get this product to connect to the internet I almost threw it in the bin. ALWAYS READ REVIEWS from other users BEFORE BUYING ANYTHING! SO MANY disgruntled customers bought this product I almost had a heart attack. The solution I found was to upgrade the firmware from the Linksys website to the latest version. V1.00.12 (Annex A) worked for me.The MOST IMPORTANT THING to know is that this router REQUIRES a password to be input, even though most UK internet providers don't use it. If you don't include a password in the password field IT WILL NOT CONNECT to the internet! You must input a password, then your ISP will ignore it and YOU WILL CONNECT!Many thanks to a user on DABS who wrote this very important tip on his review. You can get the Linksys firmware from the following URL: [...] Click on DOWNLOADS, click on the drop down menu "Please select a product" then click on "WAG54GS V1.0 - Wireless-G ADSL Gateway with SpeedBooster (Annex A). Good luck.

Great stuff
This being my first forray into wireless, I've nothing to compare this to. I have set this up ok. It did need techinical support who were faultless and talked me through how to set up the PC correctly. A point to remember is the disc is pointless unless the machine is set up in the first place. Mine kept trying to latch onto the old USB modem so it was all a bit tricky. Once set up, the firmware updated and no further issues have been seen. The wifes work PC doesn't like it greatly but I think that is the PC rather than the router, as my desktop is fine and solid when connected. It has also increased my connection speed from 3.9-4.5 to 4.9-5.1 mbps. Genrally, its been ok. Great to be able to turn it on and off, although it would be nice if it fired itself up when the pc was switched on. It means it has to be accessable on your desk. Good wireless strength and in all (after about a week), I am pleased.

DON'T buy it
Okay initially this seems like a really good router. It's 54bps not 108 but that's fine, it's built in modem supports upto a 25meg dsl connection and works great, the 4 port ethernet works fine too... except I had a nightmare with wireless, check the Linksys tech support forum, this router has major issues which can NOT be fixed, the WLAN to ethernet bridge always drops and the dhtp server will very often not lease IPs which means this router is effectively not wireless. I got a refund and have ordered a Netgear instead.
