Great 4G vehicle tracker - easy to install and good user interface for monitoring
This is the first 4G device with the AT&T service I've ever seen. You can't beat it! You will know where your vehicle is. It will let you know when it leaves a programmed virtual fence. Plus many others great features.Very easy to install (just plug it in and for get about it). You can take it off and plug it in around to any car.See the activity on your cell phone, tablet or computers (website) with no timeout after login. This is a no brainer for me.

No shipping provided for recalled units. Satellite imagery outdated. Not dependable. Inaccurate.
The speed shown is sometimes KPH even though I have it set to MPH. It shows the letters MPH but I know it's KPH. I've been in the car watching the speedometer. You can't depend on the speed shown. Sometimes it does show the speed accurately. The position on the map today shows the GPS in Africa. We live in the United States. This thing is junk. Not dependable. Doesn't work when you need it. Buggy. The developers need to fix it. I wish that I could add screenshots to this review but the option to add a screenshot is not available.I use this to monitor my son's driving activities. One thing that would be helpful would be if they would update the satellite map imagery. It's very outdated - a few years. There are new businesses that have been in the area for five or more years, and they don't appear on the satellite imagery. The app is okay, a little heavy on the resource usage and they could improve user-friendliness.I have the 2018 model GPS. It was recalled. Mine quit working two days ago and is no longer providing location.I have to send it back to get it either replaced or repaired. In my opinion, if the equipment has a known defect and is recalled, the company should send out a replacement unit. Instead, I have to send this to them (I pay shipping) and I don't really have any idea of when I'll get a replacement. During this time, if my son notices the GPS is not installed, he will be able to drive wherever he wants without me knowing. I'd appreciate if they would instead send me a replacement unit and a return label, and I'll send them this defective unit back. This way I can leave the defective unit in place so my son does not know it's not working.

How to use the app?
Was it easy to activate your Spectrum Smart GPS tracker? After I received the right number the tracker was easy to activate. Install was very easy.Is the tracking platform on your desktop/smartphone easy to use? The app is not user friendly at all. I use it for the basics, engine on, engine off, and location. Some of the features are not full visible. The actual tracking/reply feature is more confusing than helpful. The report feature is of no value. The alarms in the app have no time stamp.Does the GPS tracker give you accurate location? Generally, sometimes it is off by one or two numbers. Is there anything that we need to do to make it better? The email notifications provide location in GPS coordinates. Go figure. For some reason I have had to reset the device ~every 30 days. A manual might be helpful.I have not contact tech support to address any of these issues other than getting the right number so I could register and use the device.

Sometimes acts up, Hard to be 100% religable
I noticed that sometimes the unit does not record all of the stops, even when the engine was turned off and sat for a while, then restarted.Other times it will skip either the engine off, or engine on notice, and when you review it, it will show engine on, then engine on again at the next stop within the route type of deal.Another issue I was having, which was kind of important for what I was trying to monitor was I could never seem to get the unit to ever register the vehicle "idle". I was hoping to be able to see when the vehicle got to a destination, how long before the engine turned off, or when the engine was turned on, how long it sat before pulling away. You can kind of figure it out if you have the time to keep your eye on the time as you go through the route, to see when the engine is on, and 10 min later it starts moving, but I do not understand why this feature does not register on the app when it is a labeled feature.I was expecting a little better documenting, and reviewing of the information coming from a unit that is plugged into the vehicle's ODB port. I have used other wireless tracking devices and feel like I have better capabilities with them on some aspects. I plugged the device into my own vehicle for 2 weeks before putting it on the vehicle I wanted to monitor, and I suggest anyone else should do the same, it really helped me understand where the flaws in the GPS or device were and what to not rely on 100%. Before you start questioning your kids at why they were here or there when they said they were somewhere else, it makes more sense to fulling understand the device.Last thing, the features that monitor the harsh breaking, acceleration or turns is not actually monitored through the vehicles information, but rather through the device itself. So If you use a ribbon cable to tuck the device up under the dash, make sure that it is secure, tape alone might not hold it for a long time, and if the unit has the ability to flop around you will get false positives in those areas, and every breaking or turning motion could trigger these alerts.Very easy to register, setup, and use / connect to the app. Customer service was great to respond to my question quickly and even contacted me when the unit was detected to not be working properly, I got an e-mail that told me to unplug the unit and plug it back in to "reset" the device, which I did, and had no connection issues.

Excellent replacement for discontinued Harman Spark
My car is old enough to not have built-in wi-fi. I also wanted the peace of mind of not only having a GPS tracker on my car, but also receiving notifications of vehicle issues via the ODB-II port. The Harman Spark sold by AT&T was a perfect fit, up until they cancelled it. When shopping for a suitable replacement, I discovered the Spectrum Smart OBD tracker with wi-fi hotspot. It does exactly what I need, and actually costs less per month than my old device it replaced. The customer service has been top-notch, and I'm very happy with the performance of unit. It will really come in handy when my kid starts driving in a few months.
