Excellent sound out of vintage HiFi
This is an amazing piece of kit at this price point. Setup was relatively easy and straightforward for this less than tech savvy junior audiophile. Connectivity has been excellent with zero issues so far. The sound while streaming Tidal Connect is CD quality and I’m thoroughly impressed by what it does for what I paid. It’s currently hooked up to my vintage 200wpc Sansui G9700DB and also gets swapped into my 160wpc Sansui G8700DB that are pushing vintage Klipcsh KG5.5 speakers with Crites upgrades/titanium tweeters or Vintage Yamaha NS1000M studio monitors, so if “junk goes in , junk glaringly comes out” of this setup as far as sound reproduction. And as I said, it sounds GREAT and does not disappoint. The unit is tastefully designed so it blends well and looks good as can be seen in the photo. I would recommend this to anyone I know and definitely would purchase again if needed.

Great Price and High Quality and Exceptional Features
This WiiM Ultra streamer lives up to its reputation for having comprehensive feature set, high quality build, and ease of setup and then operational control. The packing box is impeccable and protects the unit shipped or stored within it--it weighs as much as the unit! The unit finish and style is reminiscent of a high-end Apple product (I purchased the silver version). The cost was very reasonable for all the functionality provided. I purchased this DAC/streamer primarily for WiFi streaming of music services, e.g. Pandora, Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, and Prime, through my vintage stereo system via output to RCA plugs. Wi-Fi input offers amazing fidelity. Today I expanded the configuration to use the Bluetooth input to obtain HiFi sound for a new gaming laptop vs internal speaker. Very impressive sound through Bluetooth as well. The touchscreen is a bonus--you can check what is streaming or choose different output or input options. YouTube audio expert reviewers gave it superlative ratings -- it lives up to the hype! Amazon price was great and shipping speed was excellent - I appreciate free Prime delivery.

Excellent value
I love the WiiM. I strive to be helpful. This review explains my use case (yours may be very different, but somewhere out there someone is looking for this set up), then ease of use, and, finally, quality of output. The disclaimer is I do not claim to be an audiophile; I'm just a guy who likes to have music on. Here is the preface. I needed a system for a little place we have so we can look in on my elderly father, and we might eventually move him into this condo. At home, I am running a Sonos Amp with Magenpan speakers and a Hsu subwoofer. But 2500 miles away, we have kept things simple. Here is what I am trying to do. I failed initially. I thought I would use Sonos Roam units, but I could not, unless I settled for mono. We have internet at home of course. We have a 100% legitimate means to access wifi at the condo as well: the subscription we bought includes a national network of hotspots. Since we are only at the unit intermittently, it would have be inordinately expensive to sign up for another ISP. The catch, then, with Sonos or anything running over a wifi network is you cannot rely on a shared network to make it work, even if your source is on the same network. The Sonos has bluetooth connectivity, but it won't pair units, so it cannot generate stereo sound. In addition, however, I have old, first generational Harman Kardon Soundsticks. They use old school USB cables. I like their sound. They were just gathering dust. Enter WiiM. It allowed me to stream music to the Soundsticks. That is a great strength of this design. It has every input and every output I can think of. The legacy ports extend the lifespan of devices. I had to fiddle a bit to get it working. I did not become frustrated. Within ten minutes of unboxing, we were up and running. My wife is the primary user. She puts on what she wants to hear on her iPhone. It might be possible to do something more directly from the WiiM control panel, but I am satisfied. As to the sound, I like the vintage equipment. It is good not too loud. Anything sounds good if the volume is turned up. But it has as much clarity and detail as I can discern, quiet — the space is not big, and we strive to be decent neighbors. I read about the codec. This is lossy. It suffices. I doubt anyone who is looking for the best in sound reproduction is streaming to begin with. I would opine, without expertise, the home setup is superior enough you would notice in a side by side blind test. But for the weekends we are listening to the WiiM, we have no complaints. You trade convenience for quality. Finally, I’d say from the look and feel of the machine, it is a quality piece of kit. I expect to get several years of service.

She’s that irresistible bad girl
I bought this because I had the inevitable audiophile itch to upgrade. My original setup was a Wiim Pro into a RME-ADI2 fs DAC. I ordered the Eversolo DMP-A6, the DMP-A6 Master Edition G2, and this Wiim Ultra just because I had heard so much hype and wanted to prove to myself that you get what you pay for. I ran all of these units through my Emotiva A300 amplifier and into my B&W CM9 as well as my B&W 704 s2 speakers. First off, the Wiim is a step down in build quality from Eversolos. It’s not bad, it’s just not audiophile-grade. The screen is not as nice either. It works, but it does not wow anyone. The Eversolos are fantastic in this metric. They look and feel like the real deal. This is not unexpected considering that the Eversolos are 3-5x the price. However, the Wiim app clearly edges out the Eversolo app. It’s just easier to use and you can stream from the Amazon Music app directly to the Wiim but you can’t with the Eversolos. The sound comparison, however, was mind-boggling. The Wiim was nose-to-nose with the regular DMP-A6. They have the same DAC chip so this seems logical, but how? HOW??!! It’s 1/3 the price! Good for you Wiim! Way to stand up to the playground bully. Then I ran the Ultra against the RME and Eversolo Master Edition. These aren’t just bullies compared to the Wiim, these are David versus Goliath. First off, the RME and Master Edition were virtually indistinguishable in sound quality. I did a blind A/B test for hours and they were weirdly identical. Considering that they both are in the $1500 range, I guess that’s reasonable. The Ultra at only $329 has no business in their ranks, right? RIGHT..? Think again. The Ultra actually sounded more dynamic and had a wider soundstage when compared to the RME and the Master Edition. There was definitely more “texture”/detail in the higher-end DACs and they had slightly more richness in the midrange. The Ultra is a teeny bit more relaxed but you can really only notice this with an A/B switch and you really have to concentrate. I also noticed the Ultra was a little less accurate in placing instruments in a 3 dimensional soundstage. When I say a little I mean like maybe 5-10% difference. The Ulltra is a bit more snappy and has a bit more punch in the bass. Again, we are talking a 5-10% difference here. The Ultra also has a very slight bump in the treble, ever so slightly accentuating cymbals and “s” sounds, but not in a way that introduces any offensive sibilance. It’s just a few percent more “airy”. Overall, the Ultra held its own, but how? HOW!!?? At 1/5 the price this is just stupid. I really wanted to keep the Eversolo ME Gen 2. The premium build and fancy screen just looks like it belongs with my system. This was supposed to be my impulsive yet objectively-justifiable audio equipment upgrade. It checks all the boxes. It has a sumptuous design with audiophile-approved bling. It has a screen to die for. The sound is exquisite. It has gold badges for Christ’s sake. GOLD BADGES! We are a match made in heaven. The Master Edition is my forever good looks girl with a parent-approved pedigree and we were going to live happily ever after. Then walked in this trashy, low-budget riffraff Wiim swaying her hips, twirling her curls, and grabbing my dirty mind like Susanna Hoffs’ legendary eye roll (I still get tingly today when I think about it) . I was ruined. I could no longer justify the investment in the Master Edition when I could have almost as much fun, maybe even more, with this cheap, trashy yet wildly irresistible vixen known as the Wiim Ultra. Yea, she's not the kind of girl I can bring home to mama and all my friends will officially disapprove of my transgression (but in private they will all want to know what immoral and forbidden fun I am having with this dirty little pig girl). Ostensibly hidden in their righteous contempt for my unacceptable break from convention will be endless envy. The ridiculous value proposition of the Ultra challenged my sense of financial responsibility (which was already quite rarified given that I engage in this ridiculous hobby). Simply put, the Ultra is 90% as good as the RME and the Eversolo Master Edition sound wise and function wise at 20% of the price. This damn little streamer robbed me of any reasonable argument for upgrading. In fact, I’m now selling my Wiim Pro and my RME DAC and returning the Eversolos. I have technically downgraded. Thanks Wiim. It’s like I cheated on my perfect boogie trust fund wife with a diner waitress, got divorced, and I’m now living in disgrace in a tiny apartment with this little hottie who doesn’t even know a single Coltrane song. Yet, somehow, it’s okay because I’m teaching her and she’s a quick learner who brings her own reckless but stunningly engaging approach to everything I love in life. So yes, I may have “downgraded”, but it feels like I’m still winning. Most of the time you get what you pay for. The Wiim Ultra is one of those rare products that breaks that paradigm and, in the process, turns everything we thought we knew on its head.

Great Sound quality and easy setup. Impressive
Sounds great out of the box but wait until it burns in awhile and it's wowzers. Very easy setup. I replaced an old Sonos wife box, and the WiiM Ultra brought my NAD with transparent cables and Axiom towers to life. Using optical cables helps the sound, and using this as a Dac for a 150 watt/ch amplifier has brought the NAD to in the room life. Very clean sound with great imaging and expansive sound stage. I'm upset I didn't get this long ago. The percussion is realistic, strings vibrate, and voices sound nearly as good as they do with a tubed dac. The real benefit is the usefulness across all input devices you might want to use. The app is pretty good, different EQ settings to play with, and can stream or cast to it, or switch to other components with ease. Showing the album cover is kinda cool too, even from 18 feet across the room. You won't be returning this component. Big difference; exactly what my system needed to go to the next level. Add a good sub-woofer to your system and you'll be happy your system finally got there.

You'll get 85% of the high end streaming experience at way lower cost.
This is a really nice streamer. I've been wanting a streamer with a screen and high resolution capabilities, and this has both a long with every input type one could want. Even on an entry level AVR it is possible with the use of a high resolution streaming service l I ke Qobuz to hear more nuanced representations of my favorite music. The room correction while not as sophisticated as DIRAC still solves helps to get a cleaner sound. It's not perfect intact sometimes it subtract too much. However if you try a few times you can find a happy medium. Sound quality is excellent, functionality is too. The app needs a little streamlining to make it a little more intuitive but is still really usable. The Onboard DAC is pretty decent.but if you have an Outboard DAC better results can definitely be had. I originally bought this to use the onboard DAC with my vintage Carver electronics.i saw a review on the YouTube channel "Hifi Huff" where he took all of his super high-end streaming equipment out of his system and used this WIIM UKTRA instead and he said it gave 85% of the high end streamers experience. After debating whether I wanted to spend $329+tax on a streamer. I was convinced. Im happy with my purchase. I didn't rate it 5 stats because there still is some work to do app wise. Otherwise im.pretty happy with my WIIM ULTRA.

Great Sound, Very Good App, Super Flexible
This is my 8th WiiM product in a new home build. Previously, I had purchased the WiiM Pro Plus units to provide music to several different rooms in my new home. The WiiM Ultra is being used in our main family room. I have it connected to our Samsung TV's ARC-HDMI output to provide an audio feed to my home stereo system to provide superior sound during movies and sporting events. The WiiM Ultra can be linked to the other 7 WiiM untis to provide the same or different music throughout the house. The sound quality of the WiiM is very good. For a detailed review of the sound output check the Audio Science Review forums. The WiiM app is very easy to use and offers room correction, two type of equalizers, access to many streaming services, fine tuning and many other audiophile settings. This little unit offers so much flexibility and sound quality at what I consider a fair price. I have all of my WiiM devices located in a small closet and out of sight creating a whole house sound system that is controlled by an app.

Solid streamer. Serious professional electronics. The unit is large and heavy. The best of the best!
Having had veritibal nightmares over getting yet another junk streamer that would test my sleep and ruin my sanity, I finally got a good one that worked. I can't believe some of the junk for sale on Amazon that has high ratings but doesn't work. Beware of streamers for sale. Stay away from too cheap or unfamiliar brands. Anyway, I paid more that I wanted to to get the best. At first, I felt like perhaps I would be gouged to get something that performed the basic function of streaming I needed, but was overbuilt for an audiophile who could only hear a millionth of a percent of a difference in sound quality. I was wrong. This Wiin Ultra Streamer worked instantly and flawlessly without a war that even Napoleon couldn't handle. Within minutes, this unit was up and running with Google cast working seamlessly. The pleasant shock was that my mp3s which I made the novice mistake of recording at only 192kbs sounded wonderful and full of life. I couldn't believe it. I was so happy. I will still rerecord my music at 320kbs at a later date, but that's another topic entirely. My music sounded better than I have ever heard it. I believe it might have been because of the well renowned DAC in the Wiin Ultra. The Google cast probably helped somewhat, since I was streaming WIFI instead of Bluetooth. Some of the Upper end bluetooth, such as APTX or LDAC will have your Bluetooth sounding reasonable, but many many cell phones have neither of these codecs, so streaming with Google cast will give you superior sound to ANY bluetooth. When I bought this unit, I discovered that it's really quite large and heavy in a very big box, which surprised me. It weighed very heavy, like a break, which was very unexpected. But I could tell right away that it must have expensive and serious electronics inside. Some other streamer which I bought and then returned only weighed one or two ounces. But this unit seems like the platinum standard to me. It's expensive, but not over priced. This is a heavy solid, audiophile worthy device. At first you'll be irritated by the high price. But when you get it, you'll covet it as something precious and important. I wasn't compensated for this review, but if you can get them to send me money, I won't send it back, lol. Seriously, I enjoy giving straight reviews to products, that expose the good points, but also short comings as well. This particular unit was of such high caliber and quality, I was nearly shocked, and quite happy with what I got. It was so good, that I had to reluctantly appreciate that good things have a high value and the cost was worth it. I'm sure this device was reasonably expensive to produce. Thumbs up all the way, you'll be happy and probably thank me.
