Balatro Special Edition

If you haven't played Balatro yet and you're thinking about it, don't. You won't be able to put it down. The game is ridiculously addictive and it's very easy to get into. The physical edition is superb, and well worth the money. The cards that come with it are excellent. Might just go have one more game....

This review is for Balatro on the Switch. This physical edition includes 10 playing cards. A pack of Jokers and a pack of Aces. This is the main reason I bought this. They are shinier and much higher quality than standard playing cards. It is important to note that this does not include any form of gambling at all. It is entirely single player, and offline. Chips are merely used for scoring puproses. It is a rogue-like game, so aside from the game keeping track of what decks and stakes you have won, everything is completely reset after each play. Everything you level up is for that run alone. The game itself is great, you make Poker hands with the cards you are dealt. You have set amount of hands to play, and discards for each round. You have various cards like Jokers, Planets, Taros, Spectral, and Vouchers that can increase your scoring potential, manipulate the cards in your deck, and otherwise help (or even hinder) your game progress. It takes a little getting used to at first but once you learn the Jokers and other cards, and know what works well and what to avoid, progressing through the game becomes a breeze. Until you get to Orange, then Gold Stake, then it gets a lot more difficult. The best thing about this is you can pick it up and play a run if you have a bit of spare time, on your lunch break or on the bus/train. Each game lasts on average 15-20 minutes, if you play to the end of Ante 8 and win the run. There is an optional endless mode should you beat the run. This allows you to get insanely high scores, which include scoring so high that the game can't even deal with the numbers any more! If you are looking for a fun game that you can play in short bursts, then pick this up. You won't be disappointed. It is my game of the year.

Bought as a gift, but I have played the game elsewhere and it's fun and addictive! I recommend the game as a time waster (long flight, waiting rooms, train journeys, etc). You can pick it up whenever you want and play for 10-15 minutes. It helps if you understand poker hands already, but not essential. I'm 37 years old and I love this game.

I’ve never really liked or even played many roguelike/deck builders before, but as I was and still am a big Texas hold em fan I decided to get this after reading a review on Push Square. I thought it would be better to play on the switch as I can just play whenever and wherever I want. It’s highly addictive and I always try a winning run a few times a day (9 wins so far). It’s just a satisfying feeling when your multipliers work with the jokers and you get a massive score. Also liked the simplicity but yet the thought of skipping a blind, going for a better (but maybe not in the long run) joker, which cards to add to the deck, which celestial card to unlock etc Cannot recommend this game enough!

Amazing game, Recommended by a friend how said its a great game to pass an hour. Let me tell you, the only reason I stop playing is when my battery goes on my Switch and I have to charge it!
