Aircraft Propulsion

The book arrived in excellent conditions, no writing on the pages, no pages bent. I have been using it for my aircraft propulsion course and so far I haven't really found an issue understanding the explanations either. It's written clearly, thorough enough that I can figure things out by reading the textbook on my own. There's plenty of practice problems, but I haven't yet found a solutions manual (though my classmates have said there is one). I recommend it for anyone looking to understand aircraft propulsion, but be aware it's a college-level textbook and you're expected to understand basic thermodynamics and fluid mechanics before going through the content of the textbook itself.

This book is an encyclopedia of Aircraft Propulsion with Gas Turbine Engines. The author has done an excellent job of reporting on the latest results in research in Compressor Stall and Surge. I was also very impressed with the Chapters on Component Matching and Aircraft Engine Testing. I am not done reading this book yet. I will be adding to this review in days ahead. I hope in the future editions of this book the author will devote some space to Helicopter and Marine Propulsion also. One odd aspect of this book caught my attention. The book makes references to books written by expert authors such as Cumpsty, Kerrebrock,Hill and Petersen, Mattingly, Bathie, Shepherd etc. etc.,to name just a few, but there is no reference made to the Classic Text Book "Gas Turbine Theory" by Cohen,Rogers and Saravanamuttoo anywhere in this book. This I think is regrettable.

The books has awesome explanation and theory, but the examples have errores in them so people gotta be careful

If you have to buy only one book on the subject of modern aircraft propulsion system design as a senior-level engineering student, a graduate engineering student, or a practicing aerospace/aeronautical/mechanical engineer, then the second edition of this book will be money very well spent. In terms of subject organization and clarity, material coverage and examples, I think this is one of the best books on the market, as of the date of this review. If you have the liberty to spend a little more on books on a similar topic, then the other two books I recommend would be Gas Turbine Theory, 6th edition, by authors Saravanamuttoo, Rogers, Cohen and Straznicky, and Elements of Propulsion: Gas Turbines and Rockets by Mattingly and von Ohain.Excellent book and kudos to Dr. Farokhi.

As a propulsion engineer, I would highly recommand this book.

Great book for engineering students. Well explained concepts.

Lots of information but, utterly useless when it comes doing your homework problems. Found myself venturing off into chapters all around to find the information I needed to do the problems. It's also a dense read, not ideal for students who need to get the information use it and move on. Needs better structuring, problems that are actually related to the chapter, and emphasis on the key parts that engineers actually use to solve propulsion related problems. Weak book forced onto us by our profs. because they know the guy..... Use Mattingly's text. Much better read, gets straight to the point and is useful on homework.

I consider this is a very good and useful book
