DeLonghi Magnifica Evo
So far we are delighted with the DeLonghi Magnifica Evo. Setup is easy. It makes what type of coffee drink you want with a touch of a button. No loading a coffee portafilter. No packing the coffee. No struggling to insert the portafilter. Automatic milk frother. It makes your drink dumps the coffee puck in a built in bin. And self cleans. It is a delightful and makes delicious coffee drinks. No more plastic K-Cups. The cost per cup of coffee is seriously slashed vs K-Cups. I considered the Ninga but based on the reviews and the performance of this machine. I believe I made the right choice I can’t praise it enough you need to get on of these! It looks and performs great.

My first 'superautomatic' and couldn't be happier with it
I love coffee but have always used a simple drip machine at home. I recently made the decision to invest in a fully-automated espresso machine, a superautomatic as I’ve learned they are called, just to see what I was missing out on. I gave myself a budget of $1000, which is 10x what my current drip coffee maker cost. After doing lots of research I settled on the Delonghi Magnifica Plus. (It was on sale for $999 for Black Friday.) The reasons: it came highly recommended in user forums, was getting great reviews by coffee experts, and had all the features that people complained about not having in less expensive models (easy to maintain, fully configurable, chute for ground coffee, etc.) If you look at the reviews here, you’ll notice that most of the complaints are about the cheaper models (Start, Evo) and not the Plus. The bottom line: I absolutely love it! It look me a bit of experimenting, but I eventually found the right grind/shot strength/water amount/temperature to always get my perfect cup of coffee. (I drink Americanos.) I do rely on the ability to personalize all the settings and can see how it would be frustrating not to be able to do so with a cheaper model. I haven’t used the milk attachment, but I like knowing that it’s there in case I want to experiment. The UI is well designed and it’s easy to use. The only downside is that it’s so easy to make an amazing cup of coffee that it’s hard not to drink more than I should. Another downside is that I’ve stopped going to my favorite coffee shop as often, as I can now get an arguably better cup of coffee at home. I hadn’t considered this when I first bought it, but the machine will actually pay for itself within a year.

What the Puck?
I am not sure what makes me more upset- that this well-known company put out a coffee maker that can't make a decent cup of coffee. Or that I wasted SO much money on it. The most basic function of this machine should be to make a simple cup of coffee. Good luck with that. The size of the "puck" of coffee for whatever you do with this machine is always the same. So if you want a bigger cup of coffee-the amount of coffee grinds used is the same as the small cup. The only difference is how much water it uses. That means that your 12 oz cup of coffee is weaker than the 8 oz. To adjust the size of the cup you want you press the coffee button until it blinks. You wait at the machine until your cup fills to where you want it and then you press the coffee button again. This then becomes your default (size) cup setting. Great right? Except that the next person who wants coffee has no idea what size of cup they are getting. If I brew a small cup and my husband wants a 12 oz he's getting an 8 oz unless he uses the same process. And his 12 oz cup is weak. De Longhi made the strength of the coffee a seperate interface you can easily see. But somehow neglected to make selecting the size of the cup and the setting clear. And sure- you can make two cups but guess what? No normal mug(s) fit under the two nozzles side by side. Ergo the two-cup function requires you to put a single large container of some sort under the nozzle and then pour from there into two mugs. Making two cups of coffee for ourselves each morning is a chore. We ran through a ridiculous amount of bean brands to find a bean that would be strong enough for a large cup and not taste terrible when a smaller cup is brewed or a weaker setting is selected. There is also no way to know how many beans are in the machine aside from a visual above it. Often you wind up starting a cup of coffee only to hear the dreaded "empty" whirling noise you'll come to recognize. If you're not standing near the machine to stop it still brews the cup. Don't forget the container you have to put under the machine for every on/off cycle. It cleans itself with water both when it is powered on and when powered off. This means you run through a LOT of water. If you have hard water like we have you'll need to descale and replace the filters constantly. And to descale is a 15 STEP PROCESS. This is not an exaggeration. We made it less than two months between descales last time. You CANNOT disable the auto-shut off. You can only adjust the amount of time that passes before it shuts itself off every day. (While there is a vessel under the machine to catch this extra water it fills quickly and you have to empty it often. Even De Longhi suggests putting a seperate container under it to catch this bypass water.) What about the rest of the functions? Mercifully espresso is good. You can get a good cappuccino about 7 out of 10 times. Often you just get an espresso with a lot of hot milk and zero froth. Again you can't adjust the size of the cappuccino because the puck size is always the same. I brew a small cup of coffee before running the cappuccino to get a remotely decent size amount. We have to leave the instruction manual out because this thing has so many codes and lights to interpret. "Simple One Touch" is anything but. We are both technically savvy people- it's ridiculous. We recently went on a vacation where our hotel both had the most basic, old fashioned Cusinart coffee makers. Filter. Drip. We were SO happy we could finally, easily, get a decent cup of coffee. We have guests visiting soon. I plan to buy another cheap coffee maker to use rather than try to have a college course on making a cup of coffee if we aren't around. Ridiculous. I splurged on this thing and (clearly) I regret it.

What a super-automatic should be!
I had a high-end espresso maker for years. I enjoyed the coffee but grew weary of all the effort and finally retired and sold my equipment. We recently spent time in Eastern Europe, including 5 days in a hotel with high-quality super-automatic coffee machines. I was initially skeptical but loved my morning lungo! I was even impressed with the cappuccino feature. Surprisingly good foam! So, we return home and I want to keep the lungos coming. I start researching super-automatic machines. I love spreadsheets and assembled one that enabled me to compare features, quality, price and maintenance. Digging out all the info I wanted took time and effort. I finally narrowed down my choices to De'Longhi and one other brand. I then had to decide which models gave me what I wanted. In our case, we want lungo and cappuccino. We did not need more coffee choices. We also wanted true super-automatic capability. I kept coming back to the De'Longhi Magnifica but they made several different machines with the Magnifica label. I was uneasy about the Magnifica lacking a specific lungo button. Well, I learned that this machine's coffee button is actually a lungo button (a more dilute espresso versus Americano and brewed coffee) and the machine can be adjusted to deliver the strength we prefer. I like the price and features of the Magnifica Evo and that's what we purchased. When the machine arrived, I was very impressed with the packaging. It is simply excellent! That helped me feel optimistic about the machine. After setting everything out, I was not as impressed with the manuals. The machine appeared to be quite complicated and more maintenance than I expected. After making a first cup of coffee, I liked the results but still found the manuals tedious and hard to follow. I turned to youtube.com. I found quite a few De'Longhi Magnifica videos but was especially impressed with the one by consiglioskitchenware. De'Longhi should put a link to this video in the front of the manual. The presenter showed me how easy it is to work and maintain this machine. The manual now makes a lot more sense. We've been using the machine now for a week and I absolutely love it!! The lungos are just what I want: a full-bodied brew with a lovely crema cap and no bitterness! The cappuccinos use a shot of espresso - also beautifully done - and the foam far exceeds what I expected. It's smooth with fine bubbles, maybe not as good as a high-end espresso shop but very nice for home results. As for the super-automatic features, they get top marks. We adjusted the coffee volume slightly and the machine faithfully remembers our adjustment. I punch the coffee button and I hear the grinder going to work. Then, a slight pause while the water gets set up, followed by the boiler delivering a cup of coffee. Then the machine discharges the used puck into the waste bin. When I turn off the machine or it turns itself off, it uses hot water to clean the coffee delivery line. I was skeptical about the ease of the cappuccino feature, especially foam quality and ease of cleaning. Again, the machine exceeded my expectations. I pour milk into the bottle, plug it back into the machine and hit the button. It starts with beautiful foam and then injects the shot of espresso. When I'm done, the machine has a "clean" button that discharges hot water through the foam delivery system. The milk bottle is easily rinsed and cleaned, and the head and suction tube can be easily hand cleaned or put in the dishwasher. Would I buy this machine again? Absolutely!!!

What kind of coffee was I drinking before this?
Incredible. One of the many words I can use to describe this amazing machine. The De'Longhi Magnifica Evo won my heart from the moment I took it out of the box. It looks sleek, sophisticated, and has a beauty to it that catches your eye immediately. Setting up was very easy and the instructions were simple to follow. After I filled it up with beans and filled the water tank, I just plugged it in, touched one of the many option buttons, the machine did the rest. That's it. It is the easiest coffee maker I've ever used. The first thing I made was a latte macchiato. With a push of a button, I was completely amazed. The milk container I attached frothed the milk into pillowy foam that was heavenly. The taste of the coffee was bold and so flavorful. It was silky smooth too. I love the different settings on this machine. I can literally have any kind of drink I want at home without visiting a coffee shop. I've even made tea with this machine. Everything I've made has been perfect each and every time. The my latte setting is such a great touch too! It truly personalizes my experience and I love having that option. Cleaning it is very easy as well. The parts that need to be cleaned are quick to take out and put back in when done. Also, with a push of a button, the nozzle attached to the milk container also cleans itself after each use. I found that to be a great touch too so milk doesn't get trapped in the nozzle. The Magnifica Evo also holds a great amount of coffee and the water tank holds a nice amount too. I have been blown away using this machine daily. De'Longhi has thought of everything and it shows. My morning coffee has never tasted better. And it's all thanks to this incredible machine!

Buy descaled now or you'll be held hostage for it later
This is my first espresso machine. I use it for espresso, cappuccino, and coffee. It's a great beginner's machine for using whole beans. It give you enough controls (grinder fine/coarse adjustments, strength adjustments, amount of milk to use) to make very good drinks with whole beans. There is less control using pre-ground coffee (ie no strength control). To my surprise the frother works with different kinds of milk. I use whole milk but it even works well with almond milk when I'm going for low-calorie. For the price, I'm very happy with it. I'm giving this only 4 stars due to descaling. I use only distilled water. I expected I would need to descale rarely if ever. After 2 months of daily use, it told me to descale. And by told me I mean it quit making coffee drinks completely until I went through the descale process. I feel that's unnecessary as it held my coffee hostage without forewarning until descaling was complete. So if you by this machine, buy their descaler too so you'll have it for the day the machine suddenly stops and insists on being descaled before going further.

Best Espresso Machine for those coming from Pod Coffee Machines.
If you use a pod coffee machine then this is the Espresso Machine for you. It has a large menu of coffee drinks, can give you double shots, can easily be customized. The machine guides you through the coffee making process, the cleaning process, and the refill process. This machine was built to Italian food guidelines to which I add Italian coffee and water from glass bottles. Had no problems with the machines or setup. There are online videos to aid you. It's been a few weeks and I am extremely happy.

Best Investment - Perfect Every Time
I am thrilled to finally have this machine. It makes delicious fresh coffee and milk based drinks. You will see in my video that I add my favorite creamer before my latte brews. I like mine a little sweet, and that’s what works for me. I have bought some organic syrups and can’t wait to try those, too. It has been so much fun and a delicious experience getting to know my machine. I will try to keep my review list short and simple: Pros: *Makes a delicious coffee beverage (haven’t tried iced coffee yet, but I’m certain it won’t disappoint *Reminds you to clean the milk spout with a touch of a button when finished making your milk based drinks, as you will see in my video *Automatically does a quick rinse of the coffee/water spout when turned on or off, as you will see in my video (always keep a small cup there to catch the water) *Allows to reconfigure settings to your preference and memorizes the settings you chose - I.e. more water, less foam, etc. (you can find videos on how to change settings - super easy) *Has a decent sized water tank that provides multiple drinks before filling up again *VERY easy to learn and start making coffee right out of the box (just be sure to follow initial cleaning steps first) *Accommodates whole beans and ground coffee (be sure to read how to do ground coffee, as the machine is supposed to be on, can’t go over a certain amount at a time, etc. - easy to grasp but I want you to get it right) *Alerts when it’s time to refill water tank or remove coffee grounds from its disposal tank. *Very quick process and well worth the drink - it’s definitely a treat for my husband and me. *Has a hot water feature for teas, oatmeal, etc. You pick how much you need (no preset for that, I don’t think). Just be sure to have the hot water spout attached (original spout that you remove to attach the milk container for milk based drinks) *Very hot temperature, which I love. Just be aware and careful when you first brew and take that first sip. Temperature can be adjusted - just watch a YouTube video or read the manual to learn how. Cons: *Ive only found one, and I could be mistaken. But I don’t recall getting an alert when my beans needed refilled. I am new to ground beans and maybe it expects we know how many we should use. I don’t yet know, so I put enough beans in to cover the base. However, I could tell it was out during one of my drinks because I didn’t hear a strong grind. The drink was not good. Not a big deal, but it’s worth calling out if you’re wondering or like me and a newbie to whole beans. We will get it down! I love this machine, and I am so thankful it was on a deal. We splurged and got it for Christmas for us. My advice - don’t wait another morning without this machine. You deserve this; You won’t be disappointed.
