I picked up the Orange Pi 5 Plus (8GB) to use in building a Bela Box, and it exceeded my expectations. Setup was smooth, and the board handled everything I needed right out of the gate. The Rockchip RK3588 chip is very capable, and the 8-core performance paired with 8GB of RAM makes this board surprisingly fast. I was especially impressed with how well it handled video decoding and multiple tasks without slowing down. Running Orange Pi OS and Debian both worked reliably in my testing. The HDMI output was clean, and connectivity options are more than enough for a wide range of projects. If you’re looking for a powerful, versatile single board computer for development projects—or in my case, building a Bela Box—this is an excellent choice. It worked perfectly, and I’d highly recommend it.

I've been running my OPi5+ for a while now and must say this is the first non-Raspberry pi I've had good luck with. With the RK3588 gaining main line kernel support, I only expect things to get better. I'm running Home Assistant, Plex, File Server, etc on this thing and it only averages ~2-3% CPU usage. There are a good number of 3rd party OS's with great support that make this another great buy. I have not second guessed my decision to upgrade from my Raspberry Pi 4 one second. The speed increase from just the M.2 drive is incredible! Did you already buy yours? You should!

purchased to use as a home router to at&t internet. i have the 2gig plan so i wanted something that could do nat and firewall at 2.5gbe speeds. it turns out there are slow medium and fast cores and the slow cores (0-3) could only manage a little bit over 1gbps whereas the fastest cores (6 and 7) were able to max out the nics (speedtest.net download at 2300mbps). (in case you are wondering, i like to run open source software as my firewall).

As a possible replacement for a Microsoft PC. And right now it looks real good.
