Super nice train set! Nice size (especially under the Christmas tree). Once it’s set up it’s pretty easy to use! The sounds are amazing, train whistle and Steam engine sounds are perfect! Smoke from the stack is very realistic and safe for the Grandkids, since it’s water vapor! The passenger cars light up for a very realistic look! The remote is easy to use, and my 5 year old Grandkids will have no trouble using it!

For Christmas and for my three year old son I ordered the Lionel Polar Express train set (the $100 version, not the more expensive version), but upon receiving it was disappointed with the quality. After doing a bit more reading on the Amazon site, I chose this train set to display around the Christmas tree, and I'm very glad I did. The locomotive is all metal (save for a few decorative plastic pieces), and the detail and quality it, as well as that of the coal tender and passenger cars is first rate. The lighting on the passenger cars is a really great detail that adds a ton of character to this set. And although the coal tender and passenger cars are made of plastic, the trucks (wheels) of each car are metal, which greatly adds to both the quality and functioning of the train. The rechargeable battery in the coal tender lasts a good while and is a fantastic addition that helps parents like me avoid the disappointment of not having batteries on hand. And the price is just a bonus - all this quality and detail for nearly a third less than the cost of the lesser Lionel train set. Two things would make this set just outstanding: 1) a remote control would be nice to have, but not a requirement (my son enjoyed using it with the Lionel set); and 2) a way to hide the wires between the locomotive and the coal tender would be nice, but again, not a requirement, would just clean up the look a bit. Very sleek and sturdy, they are made with metal/tin rather than plastic. It has Moving arms/"mechanics", and functional cabin lights and headlight. You can make steam come out too! Definitely didn't come from a plastic mold. I will say this is best for ages 10+, the connecting pieces are fragile fish hooks. A small child may pick it up by the front train and break the plastic. They also warn that overfilling the water/steam tank may break the train! We only use ours as Christmas decor, but it's been pretty cool and enjoyable as a toy, even for two adults lol. It even comes with a remote to control the speeds, steam and horn. My husband had a blast assembling it!

Setup takes about 15-20 minutes, sounds from the start to finish of train going around outstanding. Also, make sure to charge the middle train with the usb cable. It will stay red while charging and go off when fully charged. The train tracks are easy to connect together too.

I have had model trains for years (HO), and many trains for grandchildren-from Santa to Mickey, Potter, etc.. but this train is amazing. If you are shopping for a train for Christmas, buy this one now before they sell out. I didn't recognize the name and almost went with the name brand, but this train is almost a model train for kids. Sure it comes off the track-it's a train. The passenger cars could be heavier to be more stable. I will add weight. Don't buy any other train. This thing works and it is in a class by itself!! The sound is great, the remote works, it has steam and a whistle. The train sound is coordinated with the speed! You will not be disappointed.

Train will NOT stay on the tracks if you use the crossover pieces. Every single time it gets to these pieces, the whole thing comes off the tracks. We are not happy with the product. Modifying the track to single oval, the train does work and can go forwards and backwards and the steam and lights work.

pleased with this train set,have had hobby quality trains before aithouqh is a kids train set,you wont be disapointed at all ,locomotive is metal seems durable enough smoke works well sound soso chuf is good enough cant beat it for the price the lux version comes with xtra track,may use diferent lay out format would buy again

I remember when I was about 8 For Christmas I got an old style O Gauge 3 Rail Train Track System. I just loved it. I wanted to share that same thrill with my 6 year old Grand son. I bought this set for him to see how he would take to it. I've been trying to get him away from video games and take on new interest. This set is AMAZING!!! Real to life sound effects and for his age right up to his level. I myself Just loved It! I love the way the tracks are tide together, The many different track layouts. But most of all I enjoyed Reliving my past Christmas through his Eyes. But For everything this set has going for it...It has 1 Major flaw ..."NO CABOOSE!!!" Where in the hell is its CABOOSE?" The poor train looks 1/2 naked rolling down the track. Now That is a shame to what would be the perfect Train set for any young boy. Do you sell them separately for this type of Rail Set?

Good quality Sound and control war nice But costly

The train set will not stay on the tracks for just 1 single turn…!!!! At every turn it comes off the tracks & needs to be re-set till the next 30-40 cm till it comes off again. The smoke STINKS & cannot be switched off which is both worrying for the smell & odour & concerning for health reasons too perhaps as there is no information about how the smoke is made.

I can't believe how badly the electrical connection is installed on this train. The engine is connected to the coal tender by a hook and eye, it simply hooks over, it's not locked on. If it comes out, the only thing keeping them connected are two thin leads, which are not designed to take any rough handling. The first thing a young child is going to do is pick the engine up to examine it without supporting the tender, the weight of which is going to pull the wires out of the respective connectors. I can't believe how bad this design is. If this is still working in a week I will be amazed,and it's an expensive item, not a cheap throwaway. I can see this being returned.

Mi hijo de 3 años lo amó. Está increíble poderle poner agua y que salga el vapor. Sonido muy padre. Rieles de plástico pero resistentes. Buena duración de la batería.
