Absolutely brilliant! 8-year old grandson upwards
Absolutely brilliant! 8-year old grandson upwards, we all love this game. I will say that you do have to enjoy your maths and work quickly against the egg timer but to ease our way into the game and to keep the enthusiasm going, we doubled the time and worked in pairs. I think there has to be an element of wanting to improve your maths skill set too. Anyway patience was rewarded, now its everyone for themselves! Dad does have to slow up a bit but thats not a bad thing! Thank you Wildcard for the combination of fun and learning, sheer genius! ps Granny's table learning by rote all those years ago finally paid off!

Countdown with colourful cards
I bought this game for use in maths workshops for Primary age school children. The rules in short: after shuffling the pack of number cards each player gets six numbers from 2 to 9 (no ones). The remaining two cards are turned over to display the two digit "target number", which each player has to try to get as close to as possible. You are provided with one +, one -, one x and one divide card. This makes it very similar to the numbers game in Countdown off the telly, although you can give each player brackets as well if you want to pay attention to the "order of operations" i.e. 2+3x4=14 without the brackets but (2+3)x4=20 with the brackets. There is also a sand-glass timer. I think the game is probably suitable for Years 5 upwards (i.e. age 9+), but I'd introduce the brackets from age 10 or 11. I was a bit surprised that one other reviewer was enjoying playing with their 7 year old but I guess you can make the game easier by redealing if the target number is particularly high. I'd say the game is more suitable for a home setting rather than a school setting as it takes quite a lot of space for all the cards (and I think this is the main disadvantage with buying the game as opposed to making your own version). The cards are well made and very colourful, but once the game arrived and I found out the rules I kinda thought "oh it's the same as Countdown, I could have made this myself by printing some number cards off at home".

Fantastic game
My 7 and 9 year old really enjoy playing this. You can make it as easy or hard as you like. We started very simply, but within 2 games, introduced the brackets, which they really got creative with. Small enough to take on holiday and versatile enough to all enjoy. Would definitely recommend, especially if children have mastered their times tables.

This was a Birthday gift for a friend's son. I understand he loves it and has played it with his brothers time and time again.

Number 1s are all missing.
I bought this 2 years ago and only just got it out to teach my daughter sums but found that there are no number 1 cards. Really disappointed.
