The entire guide is made of metal. It feels sturdy and strong. There are 2 slots - one for the much wider blade such as larger chisel or plane blade and the smaller slot for smaller chisel or bullnoze plane. Gripping the blade onto the guide is easy and no messy fiddling. Ensure that the angle is maintained at 30 degree is guided entirely by the honing device. Once it is gripped in place, it is must a matter of gliding the device either over the sanding stone or sand paper of your choice. Be it dry or wet sanding, this device is applicable under both condition. Well made and a breeze to operate.

Product arrived well packaged and in a timely manner. Product exactly as described. Got this on a whim as it was not expensive just to see what it was like as I have never used anything like it before. I have to say my experience so far has being mixed. It is easy to fix blades into the honing guide securely by tightening the silver screw on the side and I found it worked well when sharpening larger blades which utilize the wider grip on top (Jack and smoothing planes) while the narrower inner grips (for bevel edged chisels and smaller blades from spoke shaves etc) are much harder to get to work properly and to keep the blade square. The grips are not manufactured to a high standard and have being given a thick coat of paint which makes matters worse. I really liked the idea behind this product so grinded away the excessive blue paint from the inner jaws, as suggested by other reviewers, and this help somewhat. Impressed with my modifications I have also since carefully filed away part of the inner jaws so they now grip square edged chisels as well and have ended up with a really handy tool. I am now getting much better and far more even edges on my blades than I used to. Despite my earlier mixed results from this product I still have to give it four stars due to its price point and the fact it worked well with larger blades out of the box. Also with only minimal modification I have ended up with a really nice tool.

A perfect companion tool to go with the weightstone sharpening kit. Cheaper than some of the alternative brand names, but of equal quality and ease of use.

I've sharpened a couple of plane blades with this. On the first (vintage No4 plane) it did a good job but the primary bevel was already at correct angle. So if you just want to hone a secondary bevel or do a quick tune up this will do the job. The second blade I sharpened was a vintage Record 077a bullnose plane blade, on this one I needed to re-establish the primary bevel, and that's where this honing guide falls down. The bevel angles (25 deg primary, 30 deg secondary) are OK, and going through the grits I was able to get the blade sharp enough to shave the hairs off my arm. But the front edge is nowhere near perpendular to the sides, nor is it straight. The guide roller is just too narrow, has way too much play, and this play already got worse from when I received the guide less than a week ago. If accuracy is important to you, best look elsewhere and be prepared to pay a bit more.

My only one niggle is that it wont accept a 2” (50mm) bevel edged chisel. Other than that, very good indeed and worth buying. Easy to use and automatically squares up your blades.

This is a high quality product and a very useful set of gadgets it is my first stick that actually worked with my phone and Go pro setting up was a breeze and the fun and ease of access is 10/10 a good strong pressure calm holds your device nice and secure. I was not expecting a drawstring bag for all the extra bits and stick very good quality indeed plus if you need to you are able to attach the stick to a separate tripod (not inclded) and use the remote from the stick that can be detactched for convinces also a reflection miror for camera placement etc very well put together and feels very lush when holiding. There are endless uses for the stick depends on device of course just be certen its paired properly with blutooth. Highly recommend it for Android and iOS not tried it on Win yet but I will be happy with it regardless and I highly recommend the stick so don't hesitate.

Bon produit pour mon usage personnel. Je ne l'ai utilisé que pour affûter mes lames de rabot. J'en ai affûté 3, elle ont retrouvé une nouvelle vie. Petit bémol quand même, j'ai des doutes sur la durée de vie de la roulette car je fais mes affûtages au papier de verre et la roulette ce promène dessus, donc fort risque d'usure pour quelqu'un qui utilise souvent ce matériel. Voir peut-être pour remplacement par un roulement. Je n'ai pas utilisé le produit pour les ciseaux à bois. A savoir que sur le produit il y a les indications de distance de sortie des lames suivant le degré d'affûtage désiré. Si vous voulez des lames de rabot qui coupent bien sans être des lames de rasoir haut de gamme, c'est le produit qu'il vous faut. Après mes affûtages, j'ai fait le fameux test des poils et j'ai un avant bras aussi lisse que de la peau de bébé. :-))

its useless for chisel because the line where the chisel sit is not smooth and round . i made mistake thinking its gonna work . for planer blade i think its useful

Ich habe das Teil trotz der auch negativen Bewertungen hier gekauft und getestet. Was auch immer der Grund sein mag, meine Schleifführung arbeitet gut und präzise. Weder habe ich ein unwichtiges Laufrad noch gestaltet sich das Einspannen der Werkzeuge als besonders schwierig. Eine Ausnahme dabei bilden allerdings besonders schmale Eisen (etwa ab 10mm und kleiner). Da wird es dann tatsächlich „fummelig“, aber damit kann man auch gut leben. So kleine Eisen sind obendrein auch fix mal händisch nachgeschliffen. Was gar nicht geht, sind die billigen Eisen mit den starken Flanken (Quasi zu dicke Eisen). Aber auch damit kann ich leben, denn ich arbeite eh lieber mit den qualitativ besseren Eisen. Von mir gibt es hier volle Sterne!

I can now achieve very good and shiny edges, but be careful when setting it up, because it's easy to place the piece slightly angled. Always check twice that it's all correctly set up and square before proceedings with the sharpening
