UPDATED, IT WORKS Fancy Rat Trap Didn't Work For Me
**update** So all summer I was able to catch about 19 rats using traditional snap traps. I left this one set up and when the cold weather set in, I took my traditional traps down and stopped baiting. I honestly forgot all about this trap being out there as it had been since September that I had set it up without any action. Today, the power went out and I had to walk back behind the shed to see the pole, and noticed a great heap of dead rats laying in the bottom of the tray. I have the habit of disabling Bluetooth because it's used for tracking. Apparently when I do this it doesn't automatically reconnect, so I never got alerted. Twice I had found Rat body parts in my yard including a gut pile left by a cat and a random rat paw I don't know where from . The trap says since November it has killed 5 rats, I found 3 of them in there and they smelled pretty bad too. One was pretty fresh. I think the other two must have been scavenged. Rats are leery of new things but I guess after a while they will come figure it out. I plan to leave it set up and will make sure to manually reconnect to it once a day to check on the trap. Finding rotting rats is pretty disgusting to have to clean up, unlike a normal trap with claws I can release, I had to dump them into a bag and they were in a great state of decay. I wanted to like this product but it just hasn't worked for me. I have roof rats in my yard and they have been going right to the snap traps and completely ignoring the a24. The a24 ships with minimal information and the app is goofy. For example it tells you it hasn't synced, leading you to believe it isn't paired, but it only syncs it snaps the rat. The app let me delete my trap but wouldn't re-add it, and it took 8 days for the a24 "tech team" to fix it, but by that time I'd made the decision to return it. I know rats fear new things but the snap traps are new too and I've got 11 in them in the last 5 nights. If you're fighting norway rats, maybe this trap works better, I'm not sure if it's the bait, or what. I've even packed sunflower seeds and pb into the lure, and into the kill tunnel. If the rats weren't biting, maybe I'd forgive it but I'm getting 1-3 a night with the snap traps. Overall I give this trap 5 stars, trapping rats with normal traps requires a lot of effort and monitoring. This thing took out 5 without me even knowing, raising my kill count to 25 since September.

Doesn't work at all, broken immediately, no dead mice only lost money
I assembled the device per the instructions. After assembly a test should be conducted using a supplied piece of paper to fire the plunger. When I did this (as the instructions said to do) the plastic housing broke apart. It is now unusable and unreturnable! This is a very expensive non working mouse trap, the only thing it caught was a bunch of my money. I feel taken advantage of. DO NOT BUY

Highly effective, but appropriate for your needs?
Ignore the negative reviews, seller complaints or user error account for most of them. These are highly effective with the proper application and strategy. I have also communicated directly with Good Nature for tips and assistance, and their support team was responsive and helpful. I have for years used the traditional wooden snap traps with peanut butter to catch mice. They are effective and cheap, but are single catch and require constant checking/resetting. They are also hard to leave outside or around pets/children. After 6 months of use with the A24 I have trapped 25 mice and 3 chipmunks, and had zero non-rodent casualties. I love the app notifications, date/time and temperature stamp recorded with each catch. It helps you better understand patterns of the mice. (I have even identified and blocked points of entry around the exterior of the house as I move the trap to different locations) I have caught as many as 3 mice in a single night. Like others have said, the newer nut butter bait seems to do better than the chocolate one. It has a very aromatic sweet nut scent, almost like pecan pie filling. My strategy is to use the snap traps to scout for activity and I move the A24 as the "big gun" to clear an active area quickly. Success is assured with proper patience, maintenance, positioning and rebaiting. We live in the woods and this is a part of our ongoing rodent prevention system. I have since added extra A24 traps to keep rodents from ever getting in the house. It's the best when predators "clean" the traps for you and you don't have to smell rotting poisoned mice in your walls. Don't buy to remove a one off mouse or rat, but if you are in an area with consistent rodent activity; the extra money spent here beat the cost of ongoing professional pest control and the use of poisons. The best part is not harming wildlife or your family members.

Not 100 percent kill rate with Norway Rats...
We've have Large Norway rats and after 20+ years had to stop composting because it's an attractant. They were digging under our house and into a section that doesn't have a poured basement. Even after the trap directly in their path/holes, they just wanted compost food. Once we stopped composting, trash in our garage became the target. I moved the trash in there in used a UV light to find their trail. (NOTE, their short, 3/8" hairs are the best indicators of where they travel/linger). Again, they just wanted the trash since that was now where our food waste was going. Another problem was with many nights of zero to -25 degrees F, the bait left a long trail after a few months down the trap and past the hammer. I had to bring the trap in and thaw it out. (I always used rubber gloves and rubbed them on trash cans/garage floor before touching the trap.) Finally Success!! After 3.5 months total, I have 7 strikes of the hammer, 3 dead rats and one dead mouse. Also, one very smelly dead rat ended up under the house after only being injured. Thankfully I could reach it through a vent area. Norway Rats have too large of a snout to ensure a brain hit every time, especially if the bait has been leaking down the chute and their goal isn't to push past the trigger. It may be all of them as I'm not sure if they've entered breeding season yet. Fingers crossed!! At the same time, We always lost about 1/2 of the large plastic jaw clampdown type rat traps with a much lower success rate of the traps that are triggered and we do find.

Worth every penny! Install in active area & you'll see results immediately with in 4 to 8hrs. Rats will stick their nose up in & trigger the trap & that's it! Recommend Installing vertically so you don't have to manually empty trap right a way so it can trigger on multiple rats over night because it auto resets. They'll just keep sticking their noses in & falling out after.

Was very excited for this. Had it for two months now and not a single kill. Mice running all around it and nothing. Disappointing.

I have had this in my Vancouver back yard continuously for 4 years. I tried the attractant that came with this trap, as well as alternatives (peanut butter, tallow, raw meat etc.). No rat has ever set off the compressed gas cylinder. Glue traps are much more effective in catching the Norwegian rats that live in our neighborhood.
