Extremely Effective on Above-Ground Roots
I bought this to shave down a bunch of above-ground roots in my Mom's yard (Dad planted Cypress trees years ago, didn't know that's what they were). I've tried a couple of other methods: one was fairly effective, but I got a pretty nasty hand injury before it was over (side grinder with a chainsaw carving wheel). This a far better way to go. It makes your chainsaw nose heavy, but keeps you separated from the business end and works very well. I used my weed eater to clear out around the roots, so the blades wouldn't get in the dirt so much and dull quickly. The blades are better than expected and stayed sharp a long time. Resharpening wasn't too hard. The only negative issue I ran into was the adjustable slots being poorly finished and tight on one side. I had to tap the bolts in with a hammer, and had to tap more to slide/adjust. I'll work on those later.

Ok
Works but not really what I had hoped. Not great for hardwood.

Assembly required. You will need to drill holes in your bar and possibly get a custom length chain.
The first thing you should know is that this is not a toy. It will peal the bark off a white oak and continue digging into the wood very quickly with sharp blades. There is no doubt that it functions well as a bark peeler, you don't want to get on the wrong end of this tool when it is spinning. I first tested it on ceder and it shaved 1/4" off with every pass. The bearing seems to be of decent quality. There is a learning curve to using it. You can go with or against the grain, the trick is to figure out how to make passes without digging to deep. It took a few tries to figure out the right chain size after assembling it. You will need to drill a bar to bolt it up to. I bought a bar to keep this thing on and swap out with my regular bar.

Buy yourself a short bar and chain
This will mostly do the trick, but it's a bit heavy, and the weight on the nose of the saw is a little unwieldy. Do yourself a favor, buy a 10" bar and a 12" chain to assemble this. I did a 14" bar on my 18" Poulan, with an old 18" chain. I will be re-assembling soon. UPDATE: 10 inch bar, 12 inch chain on my Poulan 4218 works reasonably well. I just got done with a tree and I want to share a thought - When using a chainsaw, we rarely carry the whole weight - we set the chain against the tree/log and let the weight of the saw do the work, or we help it a bit... This Bark Peeler will NOT work that way - you will be supporting the entire weight of the saw and this attachment (2-3 lbs?) for the entire time. If you let the weight of the saw do the work, it will sit in one spot and dig to china. You must "float" the attachment over the bark, and this product will absolutely do the job, but it will wear you out! Be warned.

It is okay but it's hard to control it and work with it
Well let's put it that way it takes a lot of practice to work with it you cannot put it in a regular chainsaw I mean you can but the blade of the saw you should not be more than 12 in because he becomes too heavy in the front and it's hard to control it so you a chainsaw very handles it small enough but strong enough to work because it's too heavy in the front with a long leg and a chainsaw

Bearings went out.
Great product if you're not going to use it heavy. I peeled red pine logs for a cabin that I'm building. I peeled about twenty 15' logs and then the bearings went out. Get something of higher quality if you're going to use it alot.

Pretty good
i do chainsaw carving After I cut the end off an old bar and bolted it on. Fired up the saw and it did what it says in the add. RIPPED the bark off and then some. I like it for some serious reduction of a piece.

Get Ready
This is one of those things you really need to commit to. Not something you can just slap on your saw in a few minutes. I got tired of trying to make it work so I took it to my local Stihl shop to get it installed. They drilled two holes in my bar and made a custom, special fit chain to make it work. The shop bill was for 4 hours labor and a special length chain that will only work with this attachment. Even with all that, there is still some trouble making it work. The tip of my bar has a roller sprocket. The chain fits perfectly at the top, but as it comes back from the peeler on the bottom side, it is out of time with the top. I think this could be adjusted out by moving the peeler in and shortening the drive chain. I think with some tinkering you could get it dialed in pretty good. Overall it does what it says it will do; it peels the bark off logs. I made several passes and you can use it like a planer of sorts if you keep going past the bark. It is sharp and efficient while in operation.
