Mastering Essential Math Skills Decimals And Percents (Mastering Essential Math Skills) Paperback – April 21, 2008

Mastering Essential Math Skills have been books our family has used for the last three years with great success. In 4th grade they're hitting decimals and percents really hard, so this is a must-have book for practice and review. Combined with Khan Academy this can be a powerful learning platform.The one thing I would say about the product is that you'll probably have to ask your child to do the work on a scratch sheet of paper and place the answer back in the book; there simply isn't enough room between problems to complete the tasks much of the time... I don't really look at that as an issue however as we do all of our math work on scratch paper anyway, and it keeps the book from becoming an huge thing to lug around just for the sake of space.

Child is 11. Completed this book. Math is not her strong point but she was able to complete this workbook mostly on her own without frustration.If i could add that i wish math teachers would show a page with all the formulas on it. So that children could see that each process has its own formula, and make it easier for them to study the formulas.

I am using this book to brush up on long-neglected and mostly forgotten basic math skills in order to prepare myself for higher math skills...I have used calculators most of my adult life, and found, to my chagrin that I no longer remembered how to do the basic and simple math involved in decimal and percentage problems.This workbook has been wonderful to help me get my math skills back on track. I would highly recommend it to anyone with a need to refresh math knowledge in these areas.

I have enjoyed the review of Math skills and finally understand some areas that evaded me in the past. I did find a couple of errors in the book.

I use these books for homeschooling my children and they are wonderful. I love that there is a review and a word problem on every page. I dont have to supplement with additional worksheets to cover those things. I also appreciate that there are sample problems on each page for me to do with them. Personally, I do use Friday as a day for corrections which seems to really work. Anything missed from the week gets corrected on Friday and the children have an opportunity to learn from their mistakes.

I purchased this book to review decimals and percents with my rising sixth grader and loved it. The directions are very clear and concise, and each section has "helpful hints" and examples that are very straightforward. Each lesson consists of six review questions, 12 problems (including two samples), and a word problem. Now when my daughter comes across problems with decimals or percents, she works them easily and correctly. I will purchase other books in this series.

I actually love this math curriculum but I just do not understand why these supplemental books are the same price as the Mastering Essential Math Skills books 1 and 2 but are less than half the length. Without being "legally" able to make photocopies of the pages, this can get very cost prohibitive for a homeschooling family with multiple children. Again, I love how things are laid out and explained but I just do NOT understand their pricing decisions.

I love this book! Its super helpful for me to use in my position of where I work! I'm using decimals from time to time and I needed a refresher lol
