This is and amazing buy for a handheld waterproof metal detector. This portable handheld metal detector work's great and is so accurate at locating the smallest of item's. When you're bigger metal detector beap's to alert you've found something this smaller waterproof metal detector work's even better locating the area where to start digging. If your a nighthawk and you forgot your flashlight at home this has a small flashlight built right in and is very easy to use. The price of this handheld waterproof metal detector is inexpensive and a great purchase. That's why I bought myself a backup just in case I loss it, or for when my children want to treasure hunt with Dad, or Mom, too. Good luck in your treasure hunt and I hope you all find the score of your life. Your half way there if you've purchased this handheld waterproof metal detector already.

As soon as the package arrived from Amazon, I immediately put the battery in and quickly read over the instructions. A few days earlier, I had lost a metal screwdriver flathead/slotted bit in my lawn as I was refurbishing our mailbox. I searched for over an hour that day but could not find it for the life of me. I tried dropping another screwdriver bit in the grass to see what it would look like and found that once the bit was lost in the grass, it was almost impossible to find by eye and hand unless I saw exactly where it landed. In my case, I could only narrow it down to a 6’x2’ area of grass where I remember the bit slipping out of my hand. I began sweeping the area in 1’x1’ areas of grass but upon further testing with another bit, I found that if the screwdriver bit had fallen over 1” into the grass, the metal detector would not find it unless I was really pushing on the grass to get within detecting parameters. After ~30 minutes of this method without any buzzing or beeping from the detector, I decided to use it vertically like stabbing and sliding the pointed detector in line patterns. I started randomly poking and dragging the pointed end of the metal detector in the grass into areas that I thought it might have been in, and voila! It finally buzzed and beeped! I was so relieved to find my missing screwdriver bit (OCD, I know) and knew I had to write a review right away. This metal detector would’ve been very difficult to use had I not been able to narrow down the area where I thought it was. For example, if I had the screwdriver bit on a clipboard and was walking around the grass and suddenly noticed that the bit was gone, this metal detector would not be able to help me find the bit because of the very short distance in which this detector works. This is where you’d probably need to purchase one of those long beach metal detectors that you see on tv. Pros: Works, but very limited applications (probably works better in sand and gravel) Vibrates and has audible alerts. Beeps are more than sufficient to hear Runs on 9V battery Small and portable Comes with lanyard and belt holster Built-in LED light, very dim though and not very practical Cons: You must know the general area where you dropped your metal item. Unlike a full-size beach metal detector which has more sensitivity and doesn’t require you to be on your hands and knees, this handheld will have you searching for hours if you a) don’t know the general area where you lost your item and b) dropped the item in something thick like grass or foliage. In my case, I was searching through 2-3” Florida St. Augustine grass and it was quite difficult. The metal detector only has about 4” of actual metal detection, which makes it incredibly difficult and time consuming if the area you need to sweep is large or drop location is unknown In the instructions, it states that for small things the size of a paper clip or hex/screwdriver bits, the detection range is only about 1”. You would literally need to be on top of the item for this handheld to detect it. This will vary on the medium in which the item is lost though.
