Bates PVC Pipe Cutter: A Cut Above the Rest!
I recently had the pleasure of using the Bates PVC Pipe Cutter, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations in every way possible. As someone who frequently tackles DIY plumbing projects, I've used my fair share of pipe cutters, but the Bates cutter stands out as a true gem. From the moment I picked it up, I could tell this tool was built with quality in mind. It's sturdy, well-constructed, and comfortable to hold, making it easy to maneuver. But where it truly shines is in its performance.Cutting PVC pipes with the Bates cutter was a breeze. The sharp, durable blade made quick work of even thick pipes, providing clean and precise cuts every time. I anticipated some resistance or the need for extra effort, but to my delight, it effortlessly glided through the material, leaving smooth edges that required minimal finishing. One of the standout features of this cutter is its ease of use. The ratcheting mechanism makes it incredibly simple to apply consistent pressure while cutting, ensuring a clean and even cut without straining your hand or wrist. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a DIY enthusiast, you'll appreciate how user-friendly this tool is.I was also impressed with the cutter's versatility. It handled a variety of PVC pipe sizes with ease, eliminating the need for multiple tools or constant adjustments. This versatility saved me time and made my projects more efficient. In summary, the Bates PVC Pipe Cutter is a must-have for anyone working with PVC pipes. It not only performs flawlessly but does so with an ease and precision that sets it apart from the competition. I couldn't be happier with its performance, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone in need of a reliable and efficient PVC pipe cutter. Bates has truly delivered a cut above the rest with this outstanding tool!

As advertised and does the job
This review is written with those who don't need a one-off tool for a job. As a one-off tool, it's well worth the money compared to sawing.I bought this as an alternative to another model/brand I had purchased earlier (and am returning). All I need is a straight-cutting PVC tube cutter for 1" sched40 PVC tubing. I have about a hundred cuts to make. I'm making the support structure of my project out of that stuff, and sawing will get way too messy.I really like the ratcheting action on it. It allows you to adjust as you cut. That way you usually get a clean, even, straight cut, saving me hours, and a mess, sanding things flat and level. It does the job without causing me pain in my arthritic hands, too.The down sides to it would apply to those who want something hugely durable. It doesn't FEEL durable in a "I'll never have to replace it in my life" kind of way that many tools feel like. The ratcheting action is pretty loose, and the metal, while thick enough to do the job, isn't as thick, and the fittings as tight, as one would expect for a long-lasting tool.I think it'll last long enough to plumb a home or three, and MIGHT go longer, but by that point, I have the sense it'd be having issues. So for being "flimsy" (which may be a bit harsh of a word), one star off.Otherwise, for what I need, it's great, and I'd definitely recommend it to hobbyists and those who don't do plumbing for a living (unless you want a cheap backup!).

Great for DIY
This worked great for a small 1/2” PEX project and 1/4” OD pipe project. Installed an RO system in my house with an existing PEX system.Cutter cut through the lines like a hot knife through butter. The ratchet works great as well- very easy to use especially in tight spaces where you can’t get both your arms in there.I’m not sure about the long term quality- if you’re a contractor you may want a higher quality tool. But, this thing is solid enough for all of my DIY projects.

Not a long-term solution for me
This was the first time I'd used this type of pipe-cutter. I like the *kind* of tool it is. It did what I needed it to do, and got me through the replacement of my well pressure tank and those connecting pipes. (I just went back and added another star for that) Unfortunately, the blades did chip on them about halfway through. So I'll be looking for a new pair, now that I can put a little more research into which ones to get.But for $10, these were okay. The type of cutter is super easy to use. And this is really irrelevant to whether a person should buy something, but they're funny. They look like a fish. So I took a paint pen and sharpie, and made rivets into eyes. Gotta get your smiles where you can, people. [I also darkened the raised lettering that showed the size; it was the same color as the body, but I wanted contrast so I could quickly see pipe size later]
