Wire wheels, yes, it is a wire wheel.
Just want I needed. I weld every so often and a welder i am not a grinder and wire wheel and some paint cleans up fine. Wear eye protection and a shirt of some sort. Not fun getting a wire flung into you.

No issues with escaping bristles at all!
I've used ONLY ONE of the 5 wire cups, as I never needed to change it. I ran one to clean surface rust off sprinkler piping, low/mid speed, for probably 40 minutes total contact time, and I could not tell any difference in the condition of the wire bristles from start to finish. There was nothing flung astray as far as I could tell -- the cup looked fully populated at the conclusion. I think if you have a single speed angle grinder, perhaps projectiles is an issue, but this was not the case for me. With this performance I'll not use 5 of these for the rest of my life.

Okay but not great
Bought these to prepare some outdoor iron furniture for painting. The bristles on the non-braded heads didn't last long. Wear protective clothing because the bristles fly out and will stick into you... The braded heads seem to last longer but they are very aggressive and take all of the paint off.
