Basic Bookbinding (Dover Crafts: Book Binding & Printing)

Bookbinding for Everyone
I find 'Basic Bookbinding' by A. W. Lewis to be an excellent jumping off point for the would-be bookbinder and an excellent reference for the experienced bookbinder! While it may be a bit elementary, it is a well written book on the art of making books and a very reliable guide. If you are considering making your own books, something I find to be an excellent exercise allowing me to create books filled with the kind of paper I wish, whether for art or writing or something else, 'Basic Bookbinding' is a great book to start with. I highly recommend it!Furthermore, there is something special about creating a book of your own rather than going to a local store and purchasing one. Yes, it takes time and energy but it is truly worth the effort. When you are finished, you have a book made for you by you! I highly recommend you give it a try.

Great asset for bookbinding
This book was a great addition to the information I gleaned on the internet. It had specifics for several different types of bindings that I couldn't find clear explanations for. It's clearly written and good for a beginner (my experience level). I've been using it often as a solid reference book for my bookbinding (primarily sketchbooks).

I purchased this for my husband, who is a book dealer and comes across a lot of books in need of TLC. As soon as he gets time, I know there is a wealth of info here that will be helpful to him.

The book is not well organized
I don't like that it doesn't have color photos. very hard to make sense of the steps if you don't have experience with the process. And it took forever to arrive.

Good book for conventional methods...
A very basic section on how to put books together using different knot methods to bind folios. Very clear for conventional handmade bookbinding - like library books or books sold through mainstream channels.

Good information
It is OK maybe a bit outdated, or maybe bookbinding has not changed that much. Any way great read and I learned a lot. Thanks, Martha
