Do you have to unplug this while bike is turned off? Will it drain the bikes battery if no usb devices are connected?

I had one hooked up and just a few days it ran a brand new battery dead. Suprised me, i thought it would last nonths but no. Several days staying hooked up, it will 100% drain your battery. Do what you want though.

Will this work with the output from a bicycle hub generator?

Lol... that’s a... unique idea. It should work it you can supply a constant 12V which will be quite difficult under the scenario you propose unless you have some kind of capacitor bank or something similar that will deal with voltage spikes and ... well, the inconsistent power that you’ll likely be generating. Plus you’d need an existing female SAE to plug this into. I don’t see how this would be any better than simply using what you have to charge a lithium battery bank with a usb output.

Hi Mike, the meter times out after 10 seconds after you plug it in. Pressing the button will make it run for another 10 seconds. I drive a KLR without an idiot light to warn me of an alternator failure so I recently purchased a voltmeter for my bike from Datel. http://www.bikemeters.com/cgi-bin/webshop.cgi?config=ent-datel&uid=alvvbwvi141086408221&command=link--home.html If you buy yourself a single pole double throw momentary on switch you can wire it so that pressing the button before starting will connect the voltmeter directly to the battery for open cell voltage check. Upon releasing the button it will read off of you accessory buss (key switch) whenever the bike is running for checking alternator output. Just connect C-1 (common) to your voltmeter, NC-1 (normally closed) to your hot buss (anything powered by the key switch for the bike, and NO-1 to you battery. Use a small gage wire like a no. 22 and you should probably add a fuse at the each power tap to protect the wires and meter. A 1 amp one would be fine.Hope this helps! Kindly,Denise

Is the precise voltage displayed by numbers or only red, yellow, green lights as status indicaters?

On the unit I have it is on the money, I checked it against my Simpson meter I use for work i just go by the numbers ALSO I found all the equipment from Battery tender works well, there are some oddities as of stupid Calif regs.but you must by the CORRECT one. if not sure CALL Battery Tender in FLA, they will set you straight. New for 2015: Try a phone call! you will be amazed that somewhere there is some one who will SPEAK to you and help you out on most anything. THAT'S American type service .
