I would say yes. But; each person's application of this phone case's clip, more likely would vary, depending on the pants, material, belt, thickness of belt or, no belt and, the person's specific body. This clip is plastic but, I would say yet, firm and, secure. It rotates 360 degrees. The holster case's flip over cover has no button snap clasp to secure a phone and, only has a magnet to hold the holster case close. But, in general ... in my opinion, the clip is fine.

Will this work with a Google 2 XL?

Not sure how big the Google 2 XL is. But my OnePlus 6t fits with extra room in it.

Fit good but didn't last vary long. I'm pretty active and tore it up pretty bad. Had to repair it with zip ties.

Description specifically states a10e phone. My phone has acase on it. And there is enough room left over in the case. Unless the case you want to use adds inches to width and length of your phone, I would expect your phone will fit in this case.
