Hi. Thank you for your question. We would advise our D Plus battery is single use & alkaline chemistry so not rechargeable. Our rechargeable batteries are NiMH chemistry. We hope this is of help.

Are these the big batteries for outside christmas lights

I doubt it, these are same as torch batteries. I would guess outside Christmas lights work from the mains.
