Q: Will it work in a Mac mini 2014 Mgen2ll/a?

You won't need all the tools, but yes, it worked on mine

Q: On my old hd, I have a small cable that is attached from my motherboard to the back of this unit that plugs into the ssd. Does this have that?

The cable included is the only cable needed for a typical SATA Mac Mini or laptop hard drive.

Q: How will I know if it will fit?

If you have a Mac Mini with model number A1347, and you haven't already added a second hard drive, it will fit. I successfully used this kit on an A1347 and although that Mac Mini won't officially upgrade beyond High Sierra, it's totally usable now (with a $50 256 GB SSD) where it was super sluggish before.
