Q: The product description is for some 0.5 Gal container, not for a 3.1 Gal trash can! Is this, in fact, the 3.1 Gallon trash can?

Amazon sent this to me, since i bought one of these. Mine is a 0.5 gallon trash can. I suspect the "3.1" designation is merely a typo. I went to check my order history on this and this is item description: "1 of: 3.1 Gallon Stainless Steel Motion Sensor Trash Can". Don't know why I never noticed that. Really don't think I would have missed it, because I was looking for a small one for our bathroom. (We really like it btw.) Hope this is what you want, but you can always return it if not.

Q: Does this have an interior pail- so it could be used bag free? Or does it require a bag to catch items?

Yes, it has an interior pail/bin that you can use without a bag. You remove the top part with the automatic lid and then you can lift the bin out.

Q: Can you keep the lid open for extended amounts of time?

Yes there is a button you push that will hold it open. Push button again to close.Nice response time to open.

Q: I want to put this under the kitchen sink, behind the door. Will the presence of the door cause it to open?

I wouldn’t think so with the sensor light. Maybe if you open the door the lid my pop up but again I don’t think so usually you have to wave your hand over the sensor in order for it to activate
