These work very well and each disk can be quartered to use to start 4 fires. I was skeptical but ordered anyway. Just wrap a quarter of one disk in a piece if newspaper and place on grid with some kindling or small logs and it will start. The photo i took is a fire i started 5 minutes ago.

Easy and clean fire starter.

I bought these to help start my first ever fireplace fires in the cabin I rented this weekend and they were a godsend. They do take a good 10-20 seconds to catch fire, so make sure you use longer or sturdier matches (I used hard kitchen matches and lit two at a time and that worked). I did not try breaking them into quarters, but from what I experienced, that would not have worked as well. They are a slower burn when used whole and help keep your fire going longer and stronger. Also, when you take them out of the individual plastic wrap, they are a little crumbly, so I would imagine breaking them into fourths would make a bit of a mess. I would definitely buy these again!
