Concise, well written
This is a great book to read if you want a beginner's look into the world of bonds. It is well written and answers a lot of simple questions that are actually hard to find the answers to online due to the absolutely overwhelming amount of information out there.

Great book for a Beginner in Bonds
Perfect for a person that knows nothing about Bonds. If you already have a basic understanding of them, you might want something more in depth.

Very high level book on Bond Investing.
It's a glorified booklet. The information is decent the high level as school. It is geared for an investor, when the audience should be 12th grade Senior. It's a short read at 60-70 pages. Some opinion in the book, but it's a good start.

Great intro book on bonds!
I am working towards financial independence/ early retirement and have a reasonable understanding of investing principles, but have been largely focused on equities to date. This book provides a clear and easy explanation of the basics of bond investing, including types of bonds, risk levels, tax strategies, and bond market fundamentals. Great little book!

All you need to know about bonds - for the rest of us
Wanting to know and possibly delve into bond investing for diversity, I looked into and purchased "Step by Step Bond Investing: A Beginner's Guide". Compared to longer and more detailed books I looked at, this one gave me all the information I needed quickly and in comprehensive way. All the basics covered. The short (60 page) book exceeded my expectations. Honestly I thought it would be wasted effort. NOT!Joseph Hogue pulled it off. He writes clearly and to the point. As I read with much enjoyment I worried that something would be left out before reaching page 60. Not the case. All the components of bond investing were covered in a simple and easy to understand manner. Other tutorials cover the exact same components but add a lot of additional details and that reflects on their higher page count. I appreciate having lots of details but first I need to see if I even want to consider bond investing without becoming an expert. This lean book is efficient, to the point and tells the casual reader all they need to know about the world of bond investing. After reading 60 pages you will know if bonds are for you. Either way you will know a lot about bonds.

Perfect Primer For Learning Bond Basics
Like many, I am more enchanted with the ups and downs of stock investing, versus the steady and subdued movements in bond investing. My hesitation with bonds is not just boredom either; it's also just a fundamental lack of knowledge about how they work, and what their role is in portfolio planning. I was looking for an easy introduction to bonds, and how they work. Mr. Hogue answered those hestitations of mine with clear, concise, and simple explanations that help investors construct a basic ballast for a portfolio that will provide steady returns, and stress-free management. This is a nice introduction to novice investors who need to learn the importance of protecting their investments over time with prudent choices like bonds. A quick and useful read here...maybe a little more info on how to invest in individual bonds vs. ETF's would be nice, but given the intent of the book, there is plenty here to get started in the markets of "smart money." Thanks Mr. Hogue!

A “Field of Knowledge Nuggets”
There are nuggets of information everywhere in this book. The book gives insights on how the Bond Market is related to the Stock Market and Inflation. Make sure and read until the end. One of my favorite nuggets is on page 58; “The yield curve has inverted before every recession for the last 50 years. That's a perfect seven-for-seven call on the next recession. The stock market often peaks right around the time the yield curve inverts and recession hits within about five to 16 months afterwards.” It appears we are in that situation now. I am curious to see what happens.
