Essential
I pull this off my bookshelf whenever I catch myself slipping. I try to stay constantly alert to strategies being used around me in the workplace, and the various "players" involved, but it can be easy to go on autopilot if you think the politics has shifted or if you start to feel too comfortable. Working 40h a week, its hard to pick up a large book and read it. This one is concise enough to not be a doorstop, yet simultaneously elaborate enough to educate you thoroughly. All I can add is if you're lucky enough to find this resource, read it multiple times. I would say that I wish more people knew about this book, but seeing as it's about strategy, that's probably not a good thing, or we'd have to write a new one.

One of the best and most useful books you will ever read!
Organizational politics is not only present in all workplaces but knowing how to navigate them is essential to our success and survival. It’s not covered in business schools or leadership programs. People often don’t feel comfortable admitting that such politics even exist and those who do, struggle with articulating how to manage oneself when facing the informal and unknown rules of the game.Allison writes in the style of a trusted and dear friend, providing readers with the perfect toolkit to learn how to strategically navigate those sticky situations. The book is well organized for the busy professional who may not have time to read an entire book, or for one who wishes to tackle a specific topic such as “avoid shining too brightly”, “consider why they aren’t calling out bad behavior”, and “stop silencing the skeptics”. In two-to-three pages, learn about each topic and how to successfully manage it from a seasoned expert who has your back. This will be my go-to guide when mentoring colleagues…pick a topic, read the brief guide, and discuss!

Organizational Politics is present in families and social situations
When I began reading this book, all I could think of is : "This is everywhere!" There can be a political game happening at a dinner table as well as a cocktail party. As you read this book, you will find yourself thinking of familiar scenes where these situations are present, in business or life. Now, you have some sound ideas on how to handle the reality that you find yourself in. My personal favorite is Playbook Move 7 that addresses Scarcity. Allison Valliancourt addresses how to authentically accept opportunities and how to say no with professional language that does not offend and keeps your reputation solid. Saying no in a way that keeps you in your lane and respects others is a social grace. Thanks for the sterling language, Allison, and your point of view. Sharing wisdom is a generous act. My coffer is full.

Loving it
I have been in the financial services market for over 30 years and just joined a new company. I have fallen into the traps outlined in this book too many times to count so hoping this time... Also, I am speed reading it as I want to share with my 25 and 23 year old children who are starting their careers to avoid these pitfalls. This book is on point, easy to read, and is actionable immediately.

Hard to put down!
I read this book cover to cover in record time. I was immediately struck by the honesty and authenticity of the content, but more importantly, the author. Great advice on so many topics, you won't regret this purchase.
