Peter Gray's West Country Railways Hardcover – 19 Nov. 2020

Peter was an incredible railway photographer!

A good collection of the photographs of the work of the late Peter Gray.Many of the photographs appear in the books he did for Ian Allen, but still nice to see them along with ones I have not seen before.He took well composed photographs & it is anice book to have if you have an interest in West Country railways.All the photographs are in colour.

A really interesting book with beautiful coloured photos, a must for anyone interested in West Country Railway Lines and it’s locomotives of the late 1950’s and early 1960’s

This should have been a fabulous book, but the quality of the picture reproduction is poor. The photographs are, in the main, too dark, and in my opinion, in the 21st century, they should have been digitally copied and manipulated in Photoshop or something, to really bring out the best in them.I have many other books using this photographer's work, and they are all better than this one. I have to say I feel it was produced 'on the cheap', and I would have gladly paid an extra tenner to have it done properly.

Well written, informative and well presented, this book, featuring the photographs of Peter Gray, is marvellous. It illustrates an era long gone and is so well recorded.

Peter Gray is regarded quite rightly as one of the best lineside photographers of the steam era. This selection of photos offers a wide scope of his pictures ranging from steam and a few diesel locos on main and branch lines to personnel and infrastructure on both GW and SR lines. If I have a criticism and it is the reason I can't give it 5 stars, it is that several photos have been repeated before in books and quite a few or just not good enough for reproduction being quite dark or fuzzy. A worth book to add to the collection though

Excellent book. My father knew Peter whilst working on the railways in Devon. Very interesting book with loads of information
