Overall a great Christian based science book for 3rd and 4th grade
I purchased this book as part of my 3rd and 4th graders homewchool curriculum. This book is Christian based and uses the immersion appoach to teach science. This is the first book in the Exploring Creation series. We have completed 5 chapters so far and have learned so much! This book mentions different scientific theories regarding space and its creation, but this science book, being Christian based, argues theories that do not support Christian views. It has great mid-lesson, hands on projects that are a good pause from reading. There are many hand on projects at the end of each chapter that we have thoroughly enjoyed doing! My only complaint is that the book is outdated. There is a link you can check out for updated information, but this is not convenient while the chapter is being reviewed straight from the book. For example, Pluto is considered a planet in the book, but has since been labeled a dwarf planet. Another example is the pictures and latest information on some of the planets like Mercury is not up to date. We have since sent multiple satellites to collect more current data.Another good side, though, are videos I have found online that go along with the book. We watch them at the end of each chapter and discuss what we have learned.

Awesome, favorite from series
This was the first from the Exploring Creation series that I used. Initially I used it with my son for Kinder-1st grade. He is the type who enjoys quiet work and was fascinated by the beautiful color photos and warmly written explanations. I especially enjoy the sections that tie in the new learning with creation proof. For each chapter there are two or three experiments with things most people can find around the house or from a quick run to the grocery or drug store. The text suggests keeping a notebook which not only helps the students retain their learning, but results in a beautiful keepsake they can refer back to over and over. I recommend this series all the time, and while I was so tempted to keep the set I couldn't help but share it with other families! I am ordering this for my 2nd child now and can't wait to bring her on the journey to space and the wonders of creation therein!

I'll give it five stars, even though. . .
This is a great book. We use it in our homeschooling curriculum every day and my young boys (only six and four) love it so much that we are finishing it in a very short period of time. However, I don't read some of the creationism ideas that seem a little over the top. For example, today we were reading on page 145 where it says, "Black holes point to a universe that is groaning from the decay forced upon it by Satan and the sin of man." I am a Christian and proud of it, but there are times when the author is trying so hard to teach about our Father in Heaven's role in creating all things that she just makes stuff up. I just wish she didn't push it so hard. Nevertheless, will will be continuing with the Exploring Creation series. It is, for the most part, well written, and full of great pictures and fun science projects.

A great resources but this printing is definitely dated.
We could not afford to buy the updated edition of this textbook, so we bought this one. My boys and I had a blast going through the lessons and doing the experiments and activities. One of their favorite parts was creating their own telescope. It is a great book filled with lessons that can be used with all ages of elementary kids. My only regret is that the information was dated the further we got in the textbook. It was written before any satellites had reached Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto. My older son kept us informed of the updated information as he passionately researched online.

Wonderful, informative book
We really enjoy this book. I am using it with my 1st & 3rd graders. They look forward to this subject every single day. It has wonderful information about each facet of our solar system in easy to understand language. My children are still in awe of the chapter on the sun. The book has a Christian author, so it teaches creation, but I don't have an issue with that. I plan to continue with the other elementary Apologia books when we finish this one, because it has been a blast to teach (and learn!) from this book. We use the Junior Astronomy Notebooking Journal with book, which I also recommend.

Stellar Book & Series
This series of Exploring Creating is just phenomenal. The first one we got I was learning SO much! And I am the teacher! These are written to the reader in a conversational manner, making it a very pleasant experience for even the young reader. There are kits out there you can get that have all you need to do the experiments, but the author was gracious and usually uses only common items one can easily get or likely things you already have. The notebooks are a good thing, too. My daughter got this in the mail, and was reading it weeks before her class began! That's the biggest compliment a textbook could have!

My kids loved this whole series and the upper grades as well
My kids loved this whole series and the upper grades as well. They insisted I keep them when they were done learning from them. Now what curriculum is like that?! One went into nursing and the other into engineering and not only excelled in their science classes, but truly loved science. I attribute that love to Jay Wile and his team of authors such as Jeannie Fulbright.

Great resource
Excited to start this next term. Kids are already into it and telling me all about. Great to have resources they are motivated to engage with on their own.
