he almost felt to me like he didn’t belong in the line
Sixshot.Sixshot is an interesting character. With his big eyes and his complete lack of articulation, he almost felt to me like he didn’t belong in the line. I realize that in 1987, he shared the brick approach of the Headmasters line, but he just felt off. I mean, it would have taken no effort to make his head move. On mine, I removed a small piece that tied the legs together so they could move independently. It was weird, why intentionally restrict his already limited articulation? The fact that his appearances in the comics and American show were limited to about 30 seconds of screen time didn’t help. The marketing was interesting as well, geared toward challenging kids to figure out all six modes without the aid of instructions. He felt more like Hasbro was doing a TF -themed puzzle rather than a puzzle-themed TF.What they’ve done with the Titans Return version of Sixshot is make him feel more like an actual TF to me. He has cross-compatibility with other TR toys, his articulation is on par with the rest of the line and his sculpt has more personality. They’ve also improved every mode, with the exception of the tank, which really should have a way for the legs to connect together, and the gun/sub, which is actually worse than the original. The paint is decent, with a lot of good details highlighted. When you open his chest, they even painted some gloss black panels that are never seen in any of his modes. So A for effort, I guess? The stickers … well, I appreciate the effort … I like the chrome finish of them, and there are some of the smallest Decepticon symbols I’ve ever seen on some of them. I just wish they’d been applied with more care, and that I could believe that they might actually stick on the toy for the long term. Also, if you’re doing stickers, go all out. They went about halfway with them, leaving plenty of spaces where a pretty chrome sticker could enhance the toy.I also really like that they made it so you can utilize the headmaster gimmick or not. The one bad thing is if you want his head figure to pilot the space cruiser, you have to have the helmet sticking off the back. The guns could benefit from being bulkier, and losing the stupid titan master seat gimmick, but they’re not bad.The think that is most striking about him is that he addresses the problem I’ve had with a lot of leader class figures — the hallow cheapness. He doesn’t feel or look cheap. Yeah, he’s hallow, but they hide it very well so you’re not staring into the abyss of his inner arms or feeling like you’re going to break him. He’s got a bit of heft to him, and that helps a lot.I think he’s one of the best we’ve had in TR. Not knock your socks off like Triggerhappy, but still very, very well done.
