ST49 Professional Thermocouple Instant Read Meat Thermometer

There are lots of digital thermometers out there at lots of price ranges. I took a chance on this one and it worked great, and beat my expectations with a few surprises. With a thermometer, you want something that's quick and accurate. To use it, you simply pull the probe out from the side and it turns on automatically. Stick the probe in whatever you are measuring and you get a very quick reading. There were a few nice surprises though. The display lights up automatically. Though the numbers are nice and big, the backlighting makes them even more legible. Not only that, there is a sensor that can detect the orientation of the thermometer and the display will flip when it detects it's somewhat upside-down. I like to rinse the probe before I put the thermometer away and once I was too busy to do so until much later and was surprised to see that it had turned off by itself. It's nice that it will do this to conserve battery power as it's not always convenient while cooking to clean and put away the thermometer right away. This thermometer is a well made product and I can easily recommend it to others who are looking for a good quality thermometer for their kitchen.

Had it over a year now. Easy to use and extremely durable. It reads fast and for the most part very accurate. You could spend a lot more money than this, and only get a minuscule amount better performance.

Nice product. I like that you just upfold probe and It comes on and the numbers are big and bright and easy to see. I compared with another meat thermometer I own and it is very accurate. When done you fold it back up and it turns off automatically. It arrive quickly and in a nice box that you could store it in.

I am part of a social media food group whose members were asked to review the Smartro Pro Digital Thermocouple Thermometer. As an owner of the gold standard Thermapen, I decided to compare the two products. The Smartro has a larger font size than the Thermapen, stays backlit longer, and includes an added decimal reading. Although the font size is larger on the Smartro, the screen quality is not as good, which makes the text difficult to read at angles. In temperature tests (including room temperature, hot food straight from the oven, and a bucket of ice water), the Smartro appears to get to temperature faster than the Thermapen, but the. typically runs two degrees higher. Based on previous testing, I have confidence the Thermapen is accurate. If you keep the Smartro on, it will eventually dial in the temperature and match the reading on the Thermapen. The two products have a similar design, albeit the Thermapen feels more substantial in build quality. The Thermapen typically retails for $79 or more. The Smartro is not quite comparable, but at less than one third the price, offers a comparable alternative.

I’m a big fan of another brand that is considered one of the best. With that being said the SMARTRO definitely beats it in some areas. #1 the display: you can actually see it in all kinds of light & #2 built in magnets for storing on fridge, near stove, smoker etc. it also has a area you could use to clip it in a apron. Temp seemed to hold in line with the other brand. 1° or so off. The time to display temp was good, no worrying about standing over the heat to know if your food is at temp or not. The SMARTRO felt heavier, more solid. I would recommend this to anyone that is looking for a good thermometer and is not wanting to spend $100+ on one. I tested this on stovetop and smoker. Will do more comparison when it’s not 120° outside.

The thing I was most impressed with this thermometer is the quickness of the reading. I compared it to another thermometer I got from Amazon that was a 5 star rating with over 28,000 reviews. This thermometer read a little quicker and I thought the other was fast. It was within 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit in ice water and boiling water. I don’t see the point in spending $80 for the more popular ones if you can then them for less than half the price. Update: after 4.5 years, this thing still works like a champ! It is still as accurate as it was when it was new. We use it multiple times a week and I have not spent a dollar on a thermometer since I got this one. There really is no need at all to pay for a high dollar thermometer. I HIGHLY recommend this. I will DEFINITELY order another one when mine goes out!

Had to buy another Instant Read Therm after my 'backup' one totally flaked out for some reason. Always like to have 2 just in case.. This one has quickly gone from my backup to my primary after a few weeks. Started with a quick calibration even tho it was perfectly in range when I got it. I like to be a little more than 'in range'. It's super easy to calibrate, use, and the large numbers/contrast make it easy for my old eyes to see... VERY accurate. Tested against my other Instant Read and different cooking probes, and it's always DEAD on. It's a little bigger than my other one, but I actually kind of liked that. Can get further into thick cuts of meat without getting hands too close to the heat, so that was enough to move it from backup to starter! Can't go wrong with this one, and the price point is perfect.
