Q: This mentions support for 8k and 4k/120hz, does it not suffer from the ongoing hdmi issue where neither of those actually work?

I believe this will be available from an update in the new year.

Q: Are these units being shipped with the updated board and firmware to allow hdmi 2.1 features?

Not sure about at shipment but with the ethernet connection it will update the firmware.

Q: I know this is Dolby atmos but can you still get Cinema sound with a normal 5 speaker surround sound?

Good Morning Dean, Thanks for getting in touch. In answer to your question, yes this amp is capable of the standard surround as well. Most AV amps these days are capable of knowing what is connected to the amp and distribute the sound accordingly. So if you have a 5.1 set up, you can listen in standard surround sound formats like DTS and Dolby. If you disconnected the subwoofer or don't have one, the amp will distribute the bass to the other speakers instead. Similar can be done if you only had two or three speakers and other layouts.
