The Real Thing
I fired this lantern up tonight and am very happy, it seems well made and throws a good amount of light for a flat wick lantern. The black finish looks great and these preform very well outside in the wind. The large flat base makes the lamp sit well on a table and the bail is good for carrying and hanging. It came packed very well and without damage or defects, all in all very happy that I bought it.

Simple, Durable, Servicable
I am pleased with this lantern. I have a collection of Aladdins; regular flat-wick shelf-lamps, a multitude of Coleman pressurized gas lanterns. Dietz fits the space between candles and flat-wick shelf-lamps. It is not quite as bright as a standard flat-wick lamp, but this is do higher volume air-throughput of shelf-lamp designs. Where it beats other oil-lamps and candles is its portability, stability and wind-resistance. Maybe 10-15watt light equivalent. For its ease of use, I light this first, then wander about lighting Aladdins and finally Colemans if required. I will buy again.Strong-hint: 'Lamp Oil' aka Parafin-Oil at $24-$36/gallon?--> These are just high-grade Kerosene. Sunnyside K-1 Kerosene is $42/5gal = $8.50/ gal.

Good lantern
First off, I collect lanterns and this Air Pilot is as well made as the older US-built ones (the globes are thinner glass, but very durable). Burning Kleen-Heat K-1, the Air Pilot produces a white light and very little fumes. My Air Pilot has been through snow and rain with no ill effect.Any kerosene lantern will leak if overfilled- leave at least a quarter-inch air space under the filler neck. The fuel is warmed during use and will expand- and leak!

Very bright for an oil lantern.
Lantern works fine, but seems a little flimsy compared to the Little Wizards and other Dietz lanterns I own. I hope it holds up as well in the coming years.

Dietz and Feuerhand
I have 2 Feuerhand 276 lanterns which are amazing, but Feuerhand only makes one size of lantern. I wanted to try a lantern with a 7/8 wick so ordered the Dietz #8 Air Pilot. The Dietz outputs more light and heat with the bigger wick. I use Klean Heat fuel in all my lamps. I’ll give the Dietz Air Pilot 5 stars, good bang for buck if you want a hurricane lantern with a 7/8 wick!

Do not buy this lantern! Detrimental to your health in my opinion!
Extremely well packaged, no glass breakage, looks great but kerosene leaks out like a sieve! And leaks and leaks. In fact it continues to ooze out of poorly fitted left handle of lantern. Oil everywhere! Totally unsatisfied with this product. I even purchased a funnel so pouring the kerosene would be neat and easy. But...MADE IN CHINA! Will I ever learn?Do NOT buy this lantern! Dangerous to your health and well being! Could start a major fire. UNSAFE!!! Try to find something manufactured in the USA!

Cheaply made but works well enough
Pretty cheaply made and the filler cap is a nightmare to tighten or unscrew. Almost impossible without having vice grips for hands. Raising the globe isn’t right either but it isn’t especially difficult. However, if you can manage to get the cap locked down probably or if you are lucky and get one with better stamped threads, it will work with cheap diesel without the smell. But overall it’s a cheaply made China product that is over priced living off the old Dietz name. It works however if you get lucky with the filler cap.
