Great value and good charger
Works great, easy to use and use it mainly to bring my car battery back to full strength as I don't use it that often. I like the mounting bracket. Mounted it on my wall, but I did add a spacer underneath it because the charger gets pretty warm/somewhat hot, thus allowing air flow all around it. The small size & weight is great. The alligator clips are very good and adhere to the battery very well. Its obviously slower that my large 10 amp charger as should be expected, so if your looking for faster recoveries and less need for a trickle charger, get the 10 amp version. I am leaning into getting one to replace my old 10 amp charger.

NOCO GENIUS5 compared to Schumacher SP1296
I've used Schumacher SP1296 trickle chargers for many years now, on multiple vehicles and pieces of equipment. Recently I switched all of them to the NOCO GENIUS5 and it's better in every way! On all of the Schumacher chargers I've had, (and that's been a LOT of them) the cord has eventually frayed and broken where it exits the charging unit. On the NOCO, the cord has a rubber reinforcement where it exits the unit, extending the life of the cord. I've included photos of the NOCO (black) and the Schumacher (red) for reference. The Schumacher chargers I've had were dependable and functioned well, but their cord design was a major design flaw for me. Multiple times, It forced me to replace the units before I should have needed to buy new ones. The NOCO is slightly heavier and more compact in size than the Schumacher. The control has more functions and is easy to use. The NOCO display is aesthetically more pleasing and easier to read than the Schumacher. The NOCO also has an on/off switch which is nice. I always use the eyelets to connect to the battery. The charger connection to the eyelet cord has a click type plug to lock it in place, unlike the Schumacher which just presses together. Should you want to use the battery clips, the NOCO clips are bigger and stronger than those on the Schumacher. The only negative aspect of the NOCO that I found was that, according to their user manual, "This product is designed to work in ambient temperatures between -4°F and 104°F". This has not been a problem for me, even when used outside in northern Vermont. It does get below zero here, but typically not for extended periods of time. As long as the charger is kept on the battery, and it's always fully charged, that temperature limitation hasn't been an issue for me. Overall, the NOCO GENIUS5 appears to be a higher quality and better built charger than the Schumacher SP1296. I am very satisfied with their product, and I highly recommend it.

Good Product, Bad Documentation
does what it’s supposed to do: once connected, it manages the battery on its own with no fuss. just make sure you're selecting the correct battery type. That said, the packaging was disappointing. There were no real operating instructions—just warnings and ads for add-on accessories. For something electrical, clear directions should be standard. Also, for the price, it should come with both alligator clips and ring-style connectors. this only includes the clips. The clips themselves are well made and bite well into the terminal, so that's good at least. Overall, the charger works well, but the missing documentation and minimal accessories take away from the value.

Fanfreakingtastic!
11/17/2022: Saved me from my very tired self, once again... totally dead battery in my car after leaving the trunk open slightly for a week... hooked this up after giving it a cursory jump with the TackLife T8 and left it to do it's thing. My battery is now in maintenance mode. What a wonderful helper. 4/29/2021: Every time I start my mower I am in awe all over again. The battery performs better than it did last year and the year before. My mower starts quickly now without hesitation and I am so thankful. For someone else, this may not be your solution, but for me, a senior on her own, this was far easier than replacing the battery, and now I have it to use for my auto battery that doesn't get that much use. 4/20/2021: Took a bit of work to repair the damage to my lawn tractor battery that I caused, but I'll be darned, it worked! Ran it through a charge cycle that didn't seem to do anything and I wasn't optimistic, but I was persistent. Did another charge cycle that it completed, I think, and then the next day ran the repair. The following day I did yet another charge cycle and tried to start it up and I'll be darned, it worked! All the damage I did, my negligence, this great gadget fixed. Nothing else I own, Battery Tender, Jump n Carry, etc. would do anything. I bought a different jump starter, TackLife T8 Pro, that actually got it started but all that did was show me how truly dead the battery was. As soon as I turned off my mower it wouldn't start again. Noco Genius5, and the steps I took, solved that. It wasn't fun since I'm disabled, and it was time consuming, but the end result is what I wanted and needed. Very satisfied customer. A note about the manual... boy does it need to be fixed. Nothing matched what went on at any stage of my repair and charging. My persistence and a lot of finger crossing made up for really horrible instructions. 4/11/2021: My lawn tractor battery is in a disgraceful state and it's my fault, combined with continual rain since October that prevented me, due to poor health, from taking the steps necessary for year-end maintenance. Big surprise, totally dead battery with 0 volts that nothing I had on hand could resurrect. Tried jumping it with my Jump n' Carry and it didn't. Next tried jumping with the TackLife T8 Pro and, boom, it started. Wouldn't restart and maintain the start so I grabbed the NOCO Genius5 that I bought at the same time as the TackLife. Yesterday I was very discouraged because lights on the Genius5 didn't appear to be working per the manual. Tried it just now and it's responding, led-wise, as it should and appears to be charging. Truth told, totally my fault, I should be buying a new battery, but, physically, I can't do what it takes to do that. Single senior here and my son is on the other side of the country under no-travel orders, so my life is what it is. I must get by whatever means. Really hoping this works. If I can get it charged again I'll ride this battery as long as I can and then get a new one.

Small, portable and powerful
Really loving this little guy. Smaller than I thought, did a great job charging a couple batteries, and has worked great as a trickle charger. Worth the money for sure and am happy that it is as small as it is and fits nice in my truck work box.

Fantastic charger with options for many different batteries
This is a fantastic charger, with support for different battery types (including 6v) and a connector to detach for different battery connection needs. I have a 30+ yr old truck that we don't drive very much, so the battery is often discharged. Our old, large charger stopped working, so I bought this as a smaller option. The eye terminals can be attached to the battery/vehicle directly and left under the hood, then just plugged into the charger when you want to charge it back up. The 5A charge isn't super-speedy, but I knew that going in, so I use this to charge overnight and the battery is ready to go by the morning. If you need faster charging, look for a version of this product that offers more charging power. Once charging is complete, it will stay in maintenance mode and maintain the charge, so you can get it started way in advance and you'll still be good. It's very easy to use, with only one button to control selection of the battery type and/or charge mode. It's not complex, but always takes me a few attempts to find repair mode. Press and hold for 3 seconds to switch to a 6V battery. Press and hold for 5 seconds to switch on Force mode, which you'll need if the battery is really dead (under 1V) - that will attempt to charge even without sensing the battery is connected. To get to repair mode, you'll have to be connected to the battery, in standby, then press and hold for 5 sec, which I think starts both Force and Repair. This is small and light enough to store in your glove box, and can be tucked into a small corner of the engine compartment so you can close the hood while it charges. I like Noco products - they're well worth the price for high quality gear.
